Gus Atkinson's latest Lord's feat wraps up series for England

Half-centuries for Karunaratne, Chandimal and Dhananjaya not enough to prevent heavy Sri Lanka defeat

England 427 (Root 143, Atkinson 118, Asitha 5-102) and 251 (Root 103, Asitha 3-52) beat Sri Lanka 196 (Kamindu 74, Potts 2-19) and 292 (Chandimal 58, Karunaratne 55, Dhananjaya 50, Atkinson 5-62) by 190 runs
Gus Atkinson produced his fifth performance worthy of the Lord's honours boards in his debut summer as an England Test cricketer, adding a second-innings five-for to his maiden hundred as Sri Lanka's resistance in the second Test was finally broken.
The touring side, set an unlikely target of 483 to keep the series alive, put on a gutsy fourth-innings display in a bid to avoid a first Test defeat at Lord's since 1991. There were valiant half-centuries for Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva, as well as more dogged lower-order resistance from Milan Rathnayake, in only his second Test. But in the end, they were well beaten, going down by 190 runs inside four days.

Litton Das' sublime century leads stunning Bangladesh counter

Khurram Shahzad's six-for had Pakistan on top, but they couldn't capitalise on the opposition being 26 for 6

Pakistan 274 and 9 for 2 (Mahmud 2-3) lead Bangladesh 262 (Litton 138, Mehidy 78, Shahzad 6-90, Salman 2-13) by 21 runs
In a comeback story for the ages, Litton Das' sublime 138 backed up by Mehidy Hasan Miraz's confident 78 helped Bangladesh bounce back from the depths of 26 for 6 to post 262 and keep Pakistan's first-innings lead to a mere 12 runs in the second Test in Rawalpindi.
This was Litton's fourth Test century and his first in more than two years. He was also ably supported by No. 10 Hasan Mahmud, who hung around for a ninth-wicket partnership that frustrated Pakistan for 149 balls, on top of adding 69 valuable runs as Bangladesh closed in on parity. In the end, the visitors fell a mere 12 short.

Brydon Carse makes comeback century but Durham stumble before close

Somerset rip through second innings to leave uphill struggle for visitors

Durham 336 (Carse 104*, Raine 64, Leach 5-124) and 15 for 3 need another 405 runs to beat Somerset 492 and 263 for 5 dec (Abell 56)
A Brydon Carse century on his return after suspension was not enough to prevent Durham slipping towards likely defeat on the third day of the Vitality County Championship Division One match with Somerset at Taunton.
The visitors began by adding 64 runs to their overnight first innings score of 272 for six before being bowled out for 336, Carse contributing a valiant 104 and Ben Raine making 62. Jack Leach finished with five for 124 off 41.1 overs.

Ryan Higgins, Sam Robson centuries bat Middlesex towards stalemate

Visitors trail by 160 overnight with one day remaining of run-fest at Headingley

Middlesex 441 for 5 (Higgins 117, Robson 108, Davies 61, Holden 51, Bess 4-168) trail Yorkshire 601 for 6 dec by 160 runs
Centurion Ryan Higgins became this summer's second batter to reach 1,000 runs in the Vitality County Championship as Middlesex batted themselves to an almost certain draw against Yorkshire on day three at Headingley.
Unbeaten all-rounder Higgins, who followed Glamorgan batter Colin Ingram's lead after he achieved the feat on day two, top-scored with 117 off 210 balls in Middlesex's 441 for five as they replied to Yorkshire's first-innings 601 for six declared.
