Liam Dawson's allround dominance leaves Lancashire in a spin

Four wickets in wake of century sets up prospect of big first-innings lead

Lancashire 193 for 8 (Jennings 56, Dawson 4-46) trail Hampshire 389 (Middleton 109, Dawson 104*, Gubbins 75, Wells 4-94) by 196 runs
A superb display by all-rounder Liam Dawson has left Hampshire in a dominant position after two days of their Vitality County Championship match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.
After making an unbeaten 104, his second century of the season, and putting on 71 for the last wicket with Mohammad Abbas, Dawson bowled 28 overs unchanged from the James Anderson End, taking four for 46 as the home side replied to Hampshire's 389 with 193 for eight

Will Rhodes double-century keeps Kent in the doldrums

Warwickshire scenting big victory as Hannon-Dalby strikes three times in second innings

Kent 156 and 157 for 3 (Bell-Drummond 78, Hannon-Dalby 3-26) trail Warwickshire 420 (Rhodes 201, Barnard 65) by 107 runs
Will Rhodes marked his penultimate home game as a Warwickshire player with a double-century to put his side in total command of Kent in the Vitality Championship at Edgbaston.
Rhodes struck a chanceless 201 (295 balls, 32 fours) to lift Warwickshire to 420 and a first innings lead of 264. Such a high-class innings from the former captain suggests that Durham, for whom he has signed a three-year contract, will welcome a player heading into his peak as a player.

Farhan Ahmed stars with debut seven-for but Surrey cement command

Teenage prodigy impresses against Championship leaders but Notts battle after late wickets

Nottinghamshire 144 for 3 (McCann 69*, Hameed 68) trail Surrey 525 (Burns 161, Sudharsan 105, Patel 77, Jacks 59, Clark 53, Farhan 7-140) by 381 runs
Spin bowling prodigy Farhan Ahmed continued his extraordinary entrance into Vitality County Championship cricket with figures of seven for 140 but may find his efforts to have been in vain as Surrey's first-innings 525 left Nottinghamshire fighting an uphill battle on day two at Trent Bridge.
Having become the youngest player to appear in a first-class match for Nottinghamshire at 16 years 189 days on Thursday, Ahmed gained another record as the youngest to take five wickets or more in an innings in first-class cricket in England.

Michael Pepper's maiden hundred keeps Essex pushing for victory

Westley makes 68 as challengers secure handy first-innings lead at Chelmsford

Worcestershire 266 (D'Oliveira 68, Taylor 62*, Porter 5-52) and 2 for 0 trail Essex 404 (Pepper 112*, Westley 68) by 136 runs
Michael Pepper added a maiden first-class century to two hundreds in this season's T20 Blast to put Essex in command of their Vitality County Championship match against Worcestershire.
The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman had only passed fifty once before this summer, and his previous highest red-ball score of 92 came three years ago at Durham, but his unbeaten 125-ball 112 turned the tide in Essex's favour as they seek to end a run of three games without a win.

England 427 (Root 143, Atkinson 118, Asitha 5-102) and 25 for 1 lead Sri Lanka 196 (Kamindu 74) by 256 runs
Gus Atkinson's magnificent maiden Test century set the tone for another dominant England performance at Lord's.
By the end of a second day that had begun with England sitting pretty on 358 for 7 in their first innings, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope were back out there in their second, nudging the lead along to an already imposing 256. Pope, in need of a score after 13 runs in his first three innings as captain, endured a handful of jitters but endured to the close unscathed, after Dan Lawrence had been given out on review for 7, England's only truly duff note of the day.

Aaliyah Alleyne's four helps Barbados Royals defend WCPL crown

Fast-bowling allrounder returned 4 for 21 before a fighting innings from Athapaththu confined TKR to a runners-up finish

Barbados Royals 94 for 6 (Athapaththu 39*, Ramnath 2-18) beat Trinbago Knight Riders 93 for 8 (Pandey 28, Glasgow 24, Alleyne 4-21, Matthews 2-13) by four wickets
A four-wicket haul from fast-bowling allrounder Aaliyah Alleyne paved the way for Barbados Royals' second Women's Caribbean Premier League title. In a low-scoring final, Royals restricted Trinbago Knight Riders to 93 for 8 before overhauling the target with five overs to spare. Royals were the defending champions and finished runners-up in the inaugural WCPL in 2022.
After being asked to bat, TKR started on the right note with captain Deandra Dottin - back in West Indies' squad for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 after reversing her international retirement - smacking a six off Chinelle Henry in the opening over. But things went down south for them after Royals' skipper Hayley Matthews got one to sneak in through Dottin in the second over. Henry then dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues, who ensured TKR's qualification with a half-century in the previous outing, caught and bowled for just two.

Worcestershire recover from 10 for 4 before capping day with last-ball wicket of Elgar

Essex 50 for 1 trail Worcestershire 266 D'Oliveira 68, Taylor 62*, Porter 5-52) by 216 runs
Jamie Porter blitzed a hole in the Worcestershire upper-order to return his second Vitality County Championship five-wicket haul of the season before Essex let slip their early advantage on day one.
Essex had Worcestershire 10 for 4 inside five overs - Porter and Sam Cook sharing the four wickets in a 13-ball spree - then 46 for 5 in 12 overs, before the tail wagged and the visitors reached a more respectable 266 all out shortly after a late tea.
