Wide and full, swings hard. Wanted to go over cover, gets an edge that goes wide of the keeper. Four, but it doesn't matter
Super Giants vs MI Cape Town, 1st Match at Cape Town, SA20, Dec 26 2025 - Match Result
Firdose's match report is up, do check it out. A fantastic way to start the league and the future looks even more promising. It's a double-header tomorrow. Hope to see you for that. Thanks for joining tonight.
Ryan Rickelton, POTM: Mixed emotions. Different game from both teams, neither hit their strap. Disappointing to be on the wrong side. At some point, you have to make decision. That Noor over, I felt we lost momentum. We know why he's bowling. Knew he'll either get me or Nicky out. There's no moment to relax in a 230 chase. I did enjoy. Haven't been chuffed with my cricket. Nice to be out there on Newlands on Boxing day.
Aiden Markram, DSG captain Entertaining game, it was high-scoring. Edge of the seat. 232 felt enough. We needed 2-3 good overs at the back-end. It's a great start, great venue. Hope this game will create a lot of hype. MI batted well, few areas we need to touch up on.
Rashid Khan, MICT captain: Great game, specially for the fans. You can't ask for a better Boxing day than this. Hope crowd had a good time. I think we gave 15-20 too many. Amazing, the way Rickelton played was unbelievable. DSG batted really well. That gives momentum. All know how strong their top-five are. Quite unlucky with the result, we gave the crowd great entertainment. Always great to be here, playing in this beautiful stadium.
Shadow-Shell: "A high scoring last over thriller. What a great way to announce the beginning of a tournament"
9:04pm: The chase didn't feel like it'd come this close halfway in despite Rickelton getting off to a good start. As it turned out, Reeza falling gave DSG turbocharge. Smith's 14-ball 41 narrowed the gap between both teams. When Pooran and Rickelton got 40 off 24. Mapakha and Noor were briilliant at the death. With Rickelton not out at the start of the final over, MICT still had a fighting chance. He'd gotten a life earlier and then tonned up too, unlucky for him to be on the losing side.
Full and slow on off, driven to cover
Shadow-Shell: "Bosch vs Bosch"
Jones takes another and DSG have essentially sealed it. Cutter in the slot, but wide of off, Linde - like Rickelton - has a slash across. Edges it to Jones, who came forward and fell forward as he took it. Got right back up and roared
Wide yorker again. Not given. Linde checks if that was wide, umpire explains that the batter moved outside a touch, which shifts the wide line as well.
One dot and this game's done
Wide on a length, looks to heave it off side. Misses
Rashid gets to fourth stump. Got inside the line. The short ball got big on him, he pulled it off the edge to fine leg
Jones gets another catch at long-off. Rickelton can't finish off the game, gets a big round of applause as he walks back, mostly looking down. This was a ball he'd hit out of the park many times this game. It was wide and on a length, the line is what does him in. He looked to slap it with a full follow-through, got it off the top edge
22 needed off the final over. Will Rickelton farm strike? How many can he get? Bosch has 22 to defend
Slot ball goes into Jones' hand, and he whacks the ball into the grass in frustration. Fingers across the ball with the seam pointing to point. Slot ball though, Pretorius clears his front leg and looks to drive through the line. Can't clear long-off
As good as a yorker can get. On middle, Rickelton slides leg side to get out of harm's way. Gets it to square leg
Back of length wide of off, just inside the tramline. Rickelton wanted to leather that, misses
Long six over long-on. It was a slower ball on a length but doesn't matter for Rickelton. He sits in the crease and swung across the line
Full and at the batter, Pretorius clears the front leg and drives to long-off
Yorker nearly nailed, driven down the ground
Maphaka needs to leave at least 15 for the final over, 20 would be ideal for DSG
Vishal Pawar: "Just loving the vibe of SA20, and some quality cricket to watch late night in India. Also being MI fan, good to see Rickelton back in form, with QDK back we are even more stronger in IPL "
Jones came in, didn't spot the ball at first, then saw it go above him. Would've been easy catch had he stood on the rope, instead he was a few metres inside. That costs him. Ball yorks the boundary cushion. Was a yorker that was met on the low full toss by Pretorius, who leant forward, and drove
Buttler takes a skier. This was just as high if not higher than the last ball. He came in from long-on, got low, kept the eyes on the ball and took it. Fell forward with the possession of the ball. Was a short ball that took the top edge off the pull
DaWolf: "If Cape Town fall short, it'll mostly be due to their dot ball percentage. 34% compared to 22% for Super Giants. That's a couple of overs extra of dots... "
Sker does in Bosch. Came in around midwicket and got under the swirling ball. Didn't lay finger on it. Was a length ball that was top-edged as he pulled it
Hundred up with a six that sails over long-on. Rickelton's first in SA20, he smiles as he hugged by Pooran. Was a fullish ball outside off that was effectively swept
Another one too full. Missed yorker can't be capitalised on this time. Smothered to long-on
Pooran gets underneath the slot ball and drives through the line. Seam-up, cannon fodder again. Straight six
Wiese in. 49 off 18 to get. Around
Rickelton makes room and flat-bats it on one knee. Turned a perfectly good length ball into cannon fodder. Gets it straight of long-off to ruin what was a good over till then
