short filth outside off, which Larkin pulls away through midwicket to seal an emphatic win
Heat vs Stars, 2nd Match at Canberra, BBL, Dec 11 2020 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Stars won by 6 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)
That's a wrap on our live coverage of this one. Check out Alex Malcolm's report which will go live shortly, and we'll be back for tomorrow's double header. Thanks for tuning in!
"It was nice! Good win," says NCN on Channel Seven, who wins the match award. "It was clinical. I'm surprised we had so many blokes bowling but Maxy likes to change it up. It probably wasn't a 126 wicket, but it was harder than we thought to score. Having bowlers who can bat helped. I have no idea what the plans are, I just rock up on the day and do what I'm told. On the board early. Nice to get the points, nice to get all the points."
10.15pm: So a comprehensive win for the Stars, who never really got out of third gear. Maxwell played a very useful hand in the middle order, while Cartwright steadied the ship after the early loss of Stoinis. The Heat were pretty hopeless: they only fielded one overseas player due to an availability crisis, and their young attack were never likely to restrict the Stars after they'd set such a low total. Nathan Coutler-Nile and Dilbar Hussain were the Stars' best bowlers on the night, and they have a chance to go two from two against the Thunder tomorrow.
One required for a maximum-point win for the Stars. They haven't even needed to use the Power Surge. Here's Simon Milenko to finish it
full toss outside off, hacked to short cover where there's a misfield. They squeeze a single, which levels the scores
full and straight, inside-edged into the pad
full outside off, left alone, and just about inside the tramlines
fired across the right-hander, Larkin shapes to cut but can't lay a bat on it
dirty drag-down, and Larkin thumps it over deep midwicket for six! Pretty filthy stuff, Larkin rocks back and whacks it over the rope
slid across the right-hander from round the wicket, chopped out to deep point
Lawrence gets another go with his offies.
full outside off, driven to deep extra cover to take the requirement down into single figures with four overs remaining
length outside off, steered down to third man for one more
fired down the leg side, and he'll have to bowl that one again
defends into the off side
full outside off, steered to point
length ball on sixth stump, clubbed out to deep cover point
length on leg stump, tucked out to square leg
Laughlin to bowl his final set of six.
14 required off the last 30 balls for the Stars. As routine a win as they could have hoped for in their opening game.
full bunger outside off, Larkin shapes to pull but only finds deep midwicket after a poor connection
googly, miles down the leg side, and pulled to long leg
Nick Larkin. Slip in
ugly! Slightly fuller ball, Maxwell decides he fancies a reverse-pongo over cover, and gets himself into a right muddle. Looked like it flicked something on the way through, and ends up clipping the top of off stump. Wood gets Maxwell on debut. albeit not in the way he would have imagined...
slow length ball again, Maxwell sits back and mooses him over midwicket! Better connection this time, 77 metres, and this is turning into a chastening experience for Wood
sits deep again, and can only toe-end towards mid-on this time
this is absolutely filthy. 79kph, short, slow, loopy, and Maxwell rocks back and nails it onto the grass banks. Not even close to getting it out of the middle, but it will travel 72 metres over midwicket
Jack Wood to bowl his third over. He'll float up a few more leggies
