forget the last over, this turns out to be the last ball of the game! Dug in short on leg stump and Pollard has read it like the morning daily. Rocks back and smears it a mile over deep square leg!
Patriots vs Trinbago, 12th Match at Basseterre, CPL 2023, Aug 27 2023 - Match Result
Trinbago won by 6 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)
10:56pm Right. That brings us to the end of our coverage. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we loved bringing it to you. Until next time, this is me (Shashwat) saying goodbye on behalf of Binoy George and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo. Take care, folks!
Kieron Pollard, Trinbago Knight Riders captain: (On how satisfied he is with the win) Very satisfying. They got off to a flyer but we sort of expected that. Once we got a couple of wickets and the field was spread, we kept things in control. (On the over-rate penalties) To be honest, it will take away the hard work everyone has done (prior to the penalties). We are like the pawns and we are going to do what we are told. We are going to play as fast as we can. If you are penalized for 30-45 seconds in a tournament like this, it is absolutely ridiculous. I liked how we approached it (the run-chase). Pooran has been doing well (at 3). Once you have wickets in hand on a ground like this, it is tough to defend.
Sherfane Rutherford, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain: (On his knock) I think for me, it was satisfying. Told myself to take the game deep and I did it well. We were short by a few runs, lost wickets at crucial times. Have to regroup now and come again. (On the pitch) It was a good wicket. When we tried to accelerate, we lost wickets and then had to take a few steps back. It is tough but the guys need to look in the mirror, assess and come back stronger. Coming up against a team (like the Knight Riders), they have players who can put you under pressure. As a batting unit, we tried our best. As a bowling unit, we have to look where we went wrong and come again. (On how he plans to lift the team) We have a few experienced guys in the team. T20 cricket changes fast. Nothing is guaranteed. We have four more games and we can turn things around.
Nicholas Pooran, Player of the Match: (On his knock) Just happy that we got two points tonight, really important for us. We had a lot of chat (on how to improve) in the dressing room. Good to see that we put our talk into action. I have been working hard for the last couple of years and I am in a good space. Really enjoying batting, really enjoying my cricket. He (Tucker) is really talented. We played with him in the ILT20. As soon as he came in, he was positive and really happy that he could contribute. (On Bravo) He is approaching 65 but he is playing like 29 (smiles). The way he plays the game, the way he teaches the youngsters about the game - he is a legend.
10:33pm A comfortable victory for the Knight Riders in the end. Pooran set up the chase after coming in to bat inside the powerplay. Pollard then ensured the momentum was not lost after Pooran departed, with Russell also finding the fence towards the end. A shoutout to Tucker too, who kept things ticking and denied the Patriots any window of opportunity in the middle overs.
Speaking of the Patriots, well, their shoulders began to drop the moment Naveed was hit for four sixes in an over. The problems, though, run much deeper than that one over. Apart from Bosch, none of the other bowlers looked threatening enough, meaning that they never really applied the requisite pressure on the batters. They have now lost all four of their completed matches, and tonight was another illustration of why they need to pull up their bowling socks.
Drakes to bowl what could be the final over of this game
Russell muscle! Goes for the yorker again but Muzarabani lands it a tad short. That allows Russell to get underneath it and pound it flat into the sightscreen!
searing yorker on middle and leg stump. Pollard gets his bat down in time and squeezes it out to long on
full outside off. Russell scuffs it down the ground to long off
into the stands again! Slower delivery that lands in the slot outside off. Russell opens up his stance and while he does not middle it, he gets enough muscle behind it to clear the wide long on fence!
yorker outside off. Pollard sits deep in his crease and drills it down to long on
full toss speared down the leg side. Left alone by Pollard and Muzarabani will have to reload
back of a length outside off. This one skids through and goes past Pollard's swinging blade as he tries to smash it over cow corner
Muzarabani back for his third. Is it already too late, though?
right in the slot on off stump. Russell tries to tonk it into tomorrow but chalks it off the toe-end towards the bowler
slow and short outside off. Russell sits deep in his crease and cuts it towards deep point. Hustles back for the second and makes it courtesy a dive
four more! Half-tracker outside off and that is always going to travel. Russell stands tall and blasts it past mid wicket
off the mark in style! Shortish outside off. Russell throws the plumbing at it and carves it over short third man for four!
back of a length outside off. Russell gets up on his toes and drops it into the off side with very soft hands
But hang on...that wicket has brought Russell to the crease
and he goes through Tucker! Slower delivery on a length on middle and off stump. Tucker has a loose waft at it after backing away and gets an outside edge that ends up crashing into the top of off stump. Just what the Patriots needed after the previous over!
Bosch returns
Right. That last over has changed things rather drastically. Just 31 needed now off 30 balls and the Knight Riders, with Pollard in such form and with the firepower to follow, will hope to get the job done quickly
six to finish, four maximums in the over! Another drag-down outside off and Pollard camps on the back foot before thumping it over wide long on!
and Pollard continues on his merry way! Dragged down on middle and leg stump again. Pollard gets into position and bludgeons it over cow corner. Just a 102-metre six, though!
Two balls still left in the over...
into the night sky! Another shortish delivery outside off and it looks like Pollard has now lined up Naveed. Rocks back and clatters it a 107 metres over deep mid wicket!
length on off stump. Pollard heaves at it and drags it towards deep backward square leg. Pollard wants the strike and tears back for the second
oh dear! Flatter and quicker on off stump. Pollard chunks it off the inside edge into his pads, only to see the umpire with one hand outstretched. No ball, and Pollard now has a free hit to feast upon!
That. Is. Massive. A touch short on leg stump and Pollard is all over it in a flash. Uses the depth of the crease and mousses it over deep mid wicket for a 101m six!
