and that's it, but a horrible swish through mid-on to seal the win
Close A great recovery from New Zealand after the Twenty20 drubbings. They outplayed England in every department on a sluggish pitch. England never got their innings going, largely because of tight bowling and enthusiastic fielding, and some of the running between the wickets was dire. It's hard to defend 130 and once the NZ openers had got them off to a good start, the rest was little more than going through the formalities.
The two Andrews - McGlashan and Miller - will be back for the second ODI in Hamilton on Tuesday (2.00pm / 0100GMT) but in the meantime thanks for sticking with us and for all your emails, and it's goodnight from Martin Williamson and Will Luke.
The crowd are cheering every swipe and it appears to have got to him!
a big swing, a big miss and the ball heads past the off stump to Mustard
short, he pulls out of an intended swipe to leg quite late on
Stay with us ... it's almost over ...
a loose drive, the ball keeps low, takes the edge and bumbles to third man
heaved to deep square leg
hit on the pads so far outside the line that you could see all three stumps behind him ... but Broad still yells a loud and long appeal
patted to cover
a foot outside off, safe to leave given the angle of attack
slashed drive along the ground to third man
outside off and the ball barely gets above calf height as it scurries through to the keeper. Taylor gives a startled-accusing look at the surface
a thick edge scoots along the ground to backward point who makes a decent tumbling save
wicket to wicket, Taylor ready to wait as long as it takes for the bad ball
A fuming Styris heads off with a duck to his name.
short, he looks to finish the match with a big hit but top edges a hook, Sidebottom in quickly off the boundary and slides in taking a good, low catch in his fingertips
slightly short, he stands on tip toes and dead bats the ball to cover
pushed between the cover fielders
eye of a needle ... no more than a firm push but it threads through extra cover and mid-off, they give chase but it teases them all the way before skipping over the rope
no hurry for the batsmen, another defensive push to mid-off
full, pushed back helpfully to Broad who picks up, turns on his heels and strides back
back and dropped into the ground at his feet
fuller but heading towards the slips, Styris shoulders arms
