full delivery, hammers it straight back to the bowler who gets a boot to it and the ball goes towards extra cover, and that will be the end of this IPL for Mumbai
That will be it from us for this game, the penultimate match of the IPL. 73 gone, one last big one to go. Chennai v Bangalore. Do join us for it tomorrow. Till then, this is Abhishek Purohit signing off. Cheers!
Ash: "Tommorow- IPL VS UEFA championship Finals: Lets see who wins... Irresistible... " Irresistible is the word.
Chris Gayle is the Man of the Match, ho hum. Gayle: "I had a lot of fluids today, was not feeling well. Mayank took some pressure off me by facing Harbhajan. This is one of the most successful runs of my career, hope I can do it one more time tomorrow. Sweetest victory would be to beat the home team at home."
Dan Vettori: "It is a continuation of how we have played most of the season. It's certainly not easy to bowl to Gayle, he has been a great asset for us. Our opening bowling was a big plus today, Aravind was able to take early wickets again, whatever Mumbai threw at us, we were able to counter with good bowling. Conditions are going to suit Chennai tomorrow, it will be a slow track."
Sachin Tendulkar: "I thought the way Gayle started, that set the tone for them. We came back strongly in the last ten overs, they may have ended going above 200. We ended up giving 15 runs extra, 170 would have been par. I felt it was possible. This is a high-scoring game, it was within our reach. I thought it was a good track, it was coming on nicely, but in the middle overs we got stuck. The middle order I felt could have been more consistent, but it could not happen."
Hang on for the presentation
Chris Gayle: "Lasith and Harbhajan are their key bowlers so I was looking to be a bit tentative against them. The outfield was very quick and wicket was good to bat on, it held up a bit when they chased, so we don't know what to expect tomorrow."
Zaheer Khan: "We have one win, Chennai have won the other, tomorrow is the decider. We have been playing well throughout and deserve to be in the final. Once we lost against Chennai, we were pumped up to see them in the finals. The pitch worked in our favour, the hot and humid conditions did not hold the pitch together, we did not expect it to deteriorate so quickly."
A disappointed Sachin Tendulkar shakes hands with Chris Gayle and congratulates him. All went downhill after the opening over of the match for Mumbai. Sachin had Malinga, Munaf and Harbhajan, he opted for Nechim, who went for 27.
Leo: "Today Mumbai Indians actually played like INDIANs of 90's, wayward bowling and absolutely zero batting after Sachin."
Prashant: "So the IPL trophy either stays where it is or travels a mere 360 kms."
Ali: "it is evident why SRT could not be a successful captain at international level, removing your strike bowler malinga after one over because he was hit for 9 runs and then not budging from his old school strategy of keeping the super hitter pollard for the end instead of letting him play at the top..unique circumstances require unique solutions."
shades of Sunny Sohal, backs away a mile outside leg, and brings down an angled bat down on it to get an outside edge towards third man
Mithun continues to take a pounding, length ball, he gets under it and clobbers it way over the straight boundary
that will be four, backed away again and had a big go, got bat to ball this time, just enough to take the outside edge screaming to the third man boundary
slower bouncer dug in with the angle, passes way over his blade as he backs away to have a slog
squeezed down along the ground to long on off a very full delivery
another one very full just outside leg stump, he gets an outside edge as he has a go, AB shows quick reflexes to stop it as it races to his right
another one almost in the blockhole, dug out to mid off this time
fires it in very full, he makes room to squeeze it down to long off
goes round the wicket
tries the yorker but it goes full on the pads, batsman tries to swing him behind square leg but takes it on the pads
digs it in really short, he tries to hop and reach for it outside off but cannot
off the body and in to the keeper;s gloves, Zaheer banged it in short, he went for the pull, and Zaheer thought there was bat on it even as AB took the ball, not given
makes room and cuts from close to the stumps, Gayle at backward point puts out a hand to his left casually and stops the ball
fired in full outside leg and he can't do much with it as he tries to slog it away, rolls away towards point meekly
goes for the big pull but it loops away weakly wide of deep midwicket who this time runs to his right to cut it off
full delivery squeezed away to the bowler;s left, who does well to stop it with a dive
tries to rush out and loft it over the bowler;s head but the ball turns across to take the edge of the bat and roll away towards long off
good work by deep midwicket, it was slogged in to the gap but he made a lot of ground to his left to relay the ball to long on with a dive and a scoop
slaps a dipping flat delivery down to long off
Zaheer had targetted the stumps as he saw the batsman backing away, but he reached to it and managed to keep it out, stabbing it back to the bowler
