Full and outside off, hit straight to long-off. A 42-run win for ADKR puts them level with MIE on six points
KnightRiders vs MI Emirates, 17th Match at Abu Dhabi, ILT20, Jan 24 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10:15pm A first win for ADKR over MIE in the ILT20 and it has been courtesy some strong batting show in the second half of the first innings. Sharafu has to be credited for the turnaround, given MIE had a good hold over the proceedings for most part of the first innings. And in the chase, ADKR were hardly challenged once they picked up four wickets inside the powerplay. Pollard hung around for long but could never get the next gear to take his side even close to the target. MIE ended up playing 55 dot balls, which is never good when the asking rate is above nine an over at the start of the chase
Nicholas Pooran, MIE captain: "Losing four wickets in the powerplay, it is tough. Left-right combination worked well, [Sharafu and Chase] both played well. Our bowlers came back well but at the end we gave a few easy boundaries. Powerplay is big for us, after the powerplay it gets easier. So not losing a lot of wickets in the powerplay is key. Polly batted well and it might help our NRR."
Sunil Narine, ADKR captain: "Winning the key moments helped. Batting first was a tough task but did well in the middle overs. The way we started in the powerplay with Willey and Kyle was a nice effort. Once you gets wicket in the poweplay it is easy. [On the retired out dismissal] We have Russ, you want to give him options. The guys understand their role, if Russ gets 10-12 balls in the innings, it makes a difference. We have a good collective group."
Alishan Sharafu, Player of the Match: "Pretty special, did not get many runs in the last few innings. Tried to get myself in and then cash on. Initial the wicket was tricky, on the slower side, not easy to play shots as you go in. [Retired out dismissal] Great option for teams if they have firepower down the order. You have got to do anything to win. Good option to have. Much awaited win, a lot of work went into it. The boys are going to enjoy it tonight."
So ADKR are still behind MIE in the points table, courtesy NRR. The action does come thick and fast, so do join us tomorrow for some more of this. For now, that's all we have from Abu Dhabi. This is Sudarshanan bidding y'all goodbye. Ciao folks!
Back of a length on off and middle, Pollard is not in control of the pull that goes to deep square leg
Full on middle, driven straight back down the ground
Full and down leg, he misses the flick
Very full and just outside off, Hosein looks to dig it out and Gous is interested for a caught behind. Ali Khan also convinces Narine for the review. He went deep back in the crease to dig it out but did he get an edge? Ultra-Edge does not return a murmur and Hosein survives. The bat hit the ground and not the ball
Low full toss on off, drilled to long-on
Full, straight, in the slot, Pollard is deep in his crease and tonks it straight as an arrow for half a dozen
Back of a length outside off, Hosein swings it across the line and gets a top edge. Chase runs to his right from short fine leg and dives but cannot hold on this time. What's more, both the batters are ball-watching and don't take the run
Slower yorker outside edge, Hosein, who was backing away, can only squeeze it back to the bowler
Full and angling in towards off from wide of the crease, he can only flick it to deep midwicket
55 off 9, Pollard back on strike
Length ball outside off, turned through midwicket
Length ball outside off, he swings hard and is beaten on the inside
Akeal Hosein
Chase wants it, Chase calls it, Chase takes it, and Chase perhaps ends the chase! Holder digs it short outside off, Shepherd looks to mow it over the on side but gets a top edge. It was the offcutter and not the pace-on delivery. Short fine leg calls for it and takes it safely
Holder for the penultimate over
Another yorker that passes through his legs, excellent over from Ali Khan but strange batting tactics for most part of the over from Pollard
Sees Pollard backing away, Ali Khan bowls it on a shortish length outside off. Pollard gets across to scoop but does not connect
Yorker on off, dug out through midwicket and they hare back for two
Juicy full toss down leg, he shuffles in his crease and misses
Another very full ball on leg, Pollard spreads his leg and it goes through them
Pollard's riposte is brutal! Another attempted yorker on the stumps, lands in the full length slot. He is ready for it and deposits it over the sight screen. 95m hit
Perfect yorker to start first up, 1336.8kph, Pollard fails to dig it out and is beaten on the inside. Not too far from leg, too
Ali Khan to bowl his first over in the 18th. What a move
