Thank You very much says Hridoy as he finishes things off in style! Floated outside off, was the leg break. He gets across and swats it over wide long on. Jaffna have thumped Galle by eight wickets and 44 balls to spare. A proper statement win that after the loss they suffered in their previous outing against Dambulla Aura
Titans vs Jaffna, 7th Match at Kandy, LPL, Aug 04 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Jaffna won by 8 wickets (with 44 balls remaining)
What a way to bounce back and Jaffna showed the loss in the last game was just a one-off. They are back to leading the table and Galle have been handed their first loss. That's all that we have for you today, thanks for tuning in. We'll be back nice and early for the two LPL games tomorrow. Till then, good night and rest well. Ciao!
Thisara Perera: The bowlers did a great job. There was no dew last night, but there was more dew today. Gurbaz and Hridoy are classical batsmen. The dew does not effect then. We rested two players today, but I have a good bench of players and I am happy. Sometimes I can't give him [Wellalage] bowling, it all depends on the wicket.
Dasun Shanaka: Of course tough night. They bowled really well. If we stick to our strengths we could have done better with the bat. This was a 150 wicket. Shakib and Tim batted exceptionally well last match. But such things happen.
Dunith Wellalage is the Player of the Match for his 4 for 10: These days I practice really well. My coaches and team always support me and I trust myself. The pitch was slow and I tried to bowl some variations and use the crease. I always trust myself and my team. My skipper gave me great support.
Presentation time
10.25pm Jaffna move to the top of the table with that big win. They were always going in the chase with their noses in front but the way they went about it just shows why they have won all those LPL titles. Rahmanullah Gurbaz started off with a four, so did Charith Asalanka. While Asalanka fell to Shakib, Gurbaz remained unmoved. He smashed 54 off 39 balls with three fours and five sixes, while Towhid Hridoy smashed 44* off 23. They added 83 off 52 for the second wicket and the chase was almost done there. Only Shakib Al Hasan had two wickets to show for in an otherwise insipid bowling effort.
Drag down and dispatched with disdain! Another googly goes wrong as he gets the short ball on leg stump. Hridoy swings at it and deposits it deep over deep square leg.
Just a tad short outside off, he stays back waits for the ball to turn away and cuts hard to deep point
Dismissive reverse sweep. Fuller just outside off, he gets in position nice and early and pumps it over point
Flatter length ball outside off that cramps Hridoy for room. He was shaping for the cut but the ball was too close to his body. Makes no connection
Quicker on middle stump, clipped to deep backward square leg
Oh, it's all falling apart. A simple misfield now. Flatter outside off, he late-cuts to short third, who took his eye off the ball and conceded a run
Slower length ball on middle and leg, he works it to deep midwicket
Miller in with Shakib over the wicket. One slip in.
They finally see the back of Gurbaz! No review needed for those. Tossed up on off. Gurbaz dances down the track eyeing a massive slog. Is nowhere near the pitch of the ball and his stumps take a beating.
Angles the length ball on leg stump, he wrists it to deep square leg
Thick outside edge and everything Gurbaz touches today, turns to gold. Floated outside off, he attempts a booming drive but is deceived by the spin. But he flashed hard enough for the outside edge to beat short third
Just a tad short on middle stump, he whisks it to deep midwicket
Appeal for caught behind, given and Hridoy this time takes the review. Almost immediately. That goes the other way as Hridoy gets forward looking for a drive. He clips his front pad, missing the ball altogether. The umpire has to change his decision.
Fifty off 37 balls for Gurbaz, sixth in the LPL! Length on his pads, he works it to deep backward square leg.
Flatter on middle, he skips down the track and pats back to the bowler
Quicker on middle stump, he clips to midwicket
Angled on middle and leg, he clips to deep backward square leg
Flatter on off, patted back to the bowler
Uses his feet not to the length ball and gets it to midwicket
Jaffna batters are having one of those lucky days. Can't do much here, Galle. Flatter on middle and leg. Was the arm ball. He stays back and is cramped for room. Gets a thin under-edge very late and the ball misses the leg stump by a whisker. What's worse for the bowler, it goes past the keeper too for another four
