bludgeoned down the ground, and that's the game. This is full, Pathirana missing his yorker. and Chapman stays deep in the crease and whomps this down the ground, over straight long on. Clears the boundary with ease, and Sixers are finally on the board.
Colombo vs Sixers, 10th Match at Dambulla, LPL, Jul 07 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Sixers won by 8 wickets (with 13 balls remaining)
They let things slip a bit towards the death, but Sixers played a wonderful T20 match here to get themselves over the line for the first time. They were excellent through the opposition's middle overs, keeping some powerful batters muzzled.
But most of the credit has to go to KJP and Reeza Hendricks, who put on 154 off 88 balls, and sent Sixers screaming towards a victory. Although Taskin Ahmed (who had a horror first three overs) removed KJP and Hendricks, Mark Chapman was on hand to ensure the finish came about smoothly.
That's it from us, folks. Catch you on Tuesday for more from the LPL.
tries to club this on the offside but can't beat the field
short, wide and, larrupped over the deep point boundary. This is easy pickings for Chapman, but good timing nonetheless, lifts it just over that boundary, clearing it by a foot or so
powerfully struck. This is a short ball, waist high. Chapman tells himself to watch the ball, and he stands tall and slams that flat and hard over deep square leg for six. Sixers will breathe easier after that
yorker on the stumps, dug out towards square leg and they scamper through
Akindu: "You could say as far as kjp and hendricks were concerned taskin lost all the battles but won the war" Not sure about that Akindu. A lot of damage done in those first three Taskin overs.
low full toss on the stumps, unambitiously pushed to long on for a single
shortish one on the stumps, dragged towards deep midwicket
shortish ball, wide of off, slapped to the offside sweeper
unconvincing scoop, almost caught again. This is a slower one I think, pitching outside off and back of a length. Tries to shovel it over the shoulder but gets it high on the bat. Both short third and short fine leg could have got there, but neither get a touch as they converge, and it skips away to the boundary in the end. Wow.
short again, and pulled to deep square more safely this time
in the air but it falls just safe. This is a shortish ball that Udara swats at without going through with the shot and it goes off the top edge towards midwicket. Square leg tries to get close but it's too far from him
rapid bouncer over off stump. Chapman swats it with some discomfort towards long on, and gets it inadvertently into enough space to give him a second
length ball outside off, opens the face and runs it to deep third
fullish ball on the stumps, pushed towards mid on and they scamper through
full delivery outside off, pushes this to cover.
full delivery just wide of off, Chapman gets his bat down on it and it goes off the outside edge to the short third
Chapman about to face his first ball.
fullish ball, flicked away through deep midwicket, they look for two but settle for one
The Power Blast is in play now. Only four fielders outside the circle here.
another wicket! Taskin has got both openers, and Strikers have a sliver of a chance now. This is a hell of a comeback over. This is a slower one, dug into the pitch, on about off stump. KJP tries to send this high over the deep square leg rope, but mis-hits it and it settles comfortable into the hands of Angelo Perera, about 15 metres in from the square leg boundary. Taskin has gone for 45, but dismisses his two tormentors.
full delivery angled into the stumps, clipped behind square on the legside for a single
Lahiru Udara is the new batter.
Taskin gets a wicket! After all that punishment, finally something to celebrate. This is a short of a length ball wide of off. Hendricks tries to drag that over the deep midwicket boundary, but it's straight to the fielder on the rope instead. Easy take there, and Sixers finally lose their first.
