Swings for the grandstands and connects well, fuller length ball at middle and off, brings out the flair and it's a lusty swing over deep wide long-on for a six! MI New York, the defending champions, start their defense of the title with a resounding win!
Seattle vs New York, 1st Match at Morrisville, MLC, Jul 05 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
New York won by 6 wickets (with 34 balls remaining)
MI New York faced no stiff challenge in the tournament opener and never looked fazed at any stage as the seasoned campaigners ensured they don't do anything silly. Things could have been interesting, and the game might have gotten closer if some chances had been taken in the outfield but in the end, it was a characteristic MI New York performance where everything fell into place and there were no major hiccups. 108 was never going to be enough. The win was set up by MINY's potent bowling attack, which didn't give any respite to the batters and kept them on a leash. With Rashid Khan, Anrich Nortje, and Trent Boult coming into form right after the World Cup, it was always going to be a tough ask for the batters to deal with that sort of quality. Pooran responded terrifically, holding the innings together, pacing the knock perfectly, and knowing when to block and when to attack, while Tim David struggled at the other end. The bowlers stepped up and did their job with aplomb, resulting in MI New York commencing their 2024 MLC campaign with a blast. MI New York will be back on the field tomorrow for their match against Washington Freedom
Don't go far away, as the second game of the double-header between Texas and Los Angeles will start soon!
Over the wicket, too short and swirling away wide of off, wide given on height
Noman Zeb : "Zaman Khan's over all economy rate in T20s is a bit on the higher side I think it's because he bowls a lot of death overs"
Jammed towards extra cover where Klassen is stationed, was a full ball just outside off
Fuller length, shaping it back towards the left-hander from round the wicket angle, punches it nicely to short cover
Length ball wide of off, cut away on the rise behind point for a blistering boundary. Slapped with force as well as grace.
Errs in his line and bowls full but too straight, flicked away off the pads towards backward square
Over the wicket, short of a length, angling in at leg, glances away towards short of square leg, Aaron Jones charges in and picks up the ball quickly
Mixes it up nicely and follows up with an attempted yorker on off, sliced away towards deep point
Round the wicket, mean bumper and he stays away from the line. Well, it's too short and given as a wide.
Gets low and reads the line and length well, dispatched for four over cover for a one-bounce four, high and handsome, languidly done. He is such a beautiful timer of the ball - one of the best in the business
Round the wicket, a bit short and angling in towards the southpaw, slower in pace, tapped away in front of cover, playing the situation, not in a rush to finish it off
Goes for the cutter, eased towards midwicket and canters across to the other end
Looking for a pitch-perfect yorker, it was a pace-off full-length delivery, calmly patted to cover, respecting the bowler, playing on merit
Goes for the short one again but strays in his line, down leg
Pursues with the short-ball tactic and it works! Short and outside off, can't connect as he attempts an ambitious shot over midwicket
Over the wicket, bowls a nasty bumper just outside off, Pollard goes for the hook and gets hit on the shoulder, was a pace-off bumper
Fires in a wide yorker and he can't lay bat on it
Sublime fifty. Back of a length on middle, shoulders rotated powerfully towards the leg side, swivels and flams it towards midwicket to bring up his half-century. He is a model of consistency and a different beast in MI colours. Gets off to a brilliant start and sends an early warning to all the other teams.
Short, wide and slammed away to deep backward point, chase for the fielder in the deep who does well with a well-timed intervention to prevent a boundary
Captain takes his guard. Over the wicket, probing line and length, on a good length and nipping away from middle, watchfully defended behind point
