Dawson gets Vince! Great catch, sliding along the floor to take a full-length catch after Vince had given himself room to try and carve Mitchell high over the off side
Brave vs Spirit, 11th Match at London, Men's Hundred, Aug 08 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
8:55pm: Match abandoned! A shame given the efforts of the ground staff and players, and endeavour of the fans that remained. A second washout for Spirit at least sees them move off the bottom, where they are replaced by Birmingham Phoenix. Brave move to 6th with a third point.
8:49pm: Big covers on now. Call it already...
8:45pm We need to start play by 9:12pm to get a 25-ball match in. That is unless the umpires deem the conditions unfit and call it off outright even if the rains stop (they haven't)
8:38pm: Oh booo, it's started raining again and they are off again. Could be a terminal downpour, this... no big covers on just yet, but it is drizzling steadily and the umpires are back out there to have a chat with Karl McDermott, the head ground staff here at Lord's
Daryl Mitchell to bowl his seamers
Carved through cover, to Worrall on the fence
Tim David up next
Gone! Slower, shorter, wider and Allen, who has been clutching ever since he came back out, slaps Dawson to Crawley, who runs in from the fence to take a straightforward catch
Scuffed into the ground as Dawson opts for a wide delivery, yorker-like in length
Full bunger and Vince only manages to get his best mate out to the fielder at deep midwicket, all along the floor
Allen gives himself room and bashes a good length delivery to long off
Left-arm tweaker Liam Dawson comes in
Hacked down to long on
Full into the pads, Vince tucks to deep square leg
Crisp! Full just outside off stump and Vince clears the front leg to smear over wide long on - and the tallest man on the field (Zak Crawley)
Outside off and smeared off the back foot but on the bounce to wide long on
Dragged down by the leggie and dragged down by Vince, out to square leg on the fence
Leg spinner Matt Critchley into the attack
Drop and run behind point as Thompson hits a hard length on that channel just outside off stump
Guided just in front of point for a single as Thompson straightens his line
And that's the end of the Power Play - Brave 19/1 off 13
And another! Thompson corrects on the off side but Vince punches through the covers off the back foot. All class.
BANG! Great way to start as Vince swivels a short ball behind square leg for a one-bounce four
8:24pm: Players making their way back out there. For those asking, yes, a DLS adjustment will be made for Spirit's target
RESTART AT 8:25PM! 50 balls-a-side, bowlers can send down a maximum of 10. The Power Play is 13 deliveries, meaning Brave have just two balls of it remaining
8:00pm: Another inspection at 8:10pm at Lord's "with a view to starting as soon as possible". You'd think that's always the case... anyway, only the hover cover remains on at the moment and a rope is being dragged around the outfield for the surface water
7:42pm: Pitch inspection incoming. And FYI - the latest start time is 8.52pm, meaning 14 balls for Spirit to bowl, and 25 for Brave, with a 10 minute interval in between. The scheduled close of play is 9.25pm.
7:35pm Word from Lord's is the rains have stopped and the covers are being rolled back. Promising scenes
7:09pm: Bit of housekeeping - we'll start losing deliveries at 7:14pm
7:02pm: Peter: "This new fad of playing cricket in November looks like it could catch on." Assuming all this awful weather means November will be positively balmy... anyway, the square covers are now being rolled out and the bowlers run-ups are being protected.
6:54pm: Match delayed! Rains have picked up and the umpires have decided - wisely - to get the hover cover on. It's fairly windy out there, so hopefully it pushes this weather away. Important to note with the delayed start already, it won't be long before we start losing balls...
Short and Allen pulls to the fielder out at deep midwicket
Jordan Thompson in for the next set
Pushed into mid on where the fielder is back but Vince rejects the offer to come back for a second
Hard length defended into the off side, but straight to cover point
Rain has just started to fall in St John's Wood...
Fired just down the leg side
Off the mark straight away with a tuck into midwicket
