The site ran several sponsored fantasy leagues in its early years, but the first fantasy league competition it hosted was a subscription-based affair. Users were asked to pay £5 each to enter the fantasy league for a NatWest series between England and Pakistan. Cricinfo's first free worldwide fantasy league competition was the one hosted for the 2007 World Cup.
