Anurag Singh, former Cambridge University captain and a qualified
Solicitor looks forward to help Warwickshire beat Gloucestershire on
Saturday's final at Lord's. A fortnight ago he was fearing that his
career is through with Warwickshire.
In the semi-final against Hampshire, Anurag Singh was under "enormous
pressure" to deliver or exit as he had struggled to gain a permanent
place in the team. But he scored 85 runs and matched opener Nick
Knight in a stand of 185 which formed the base for their team's win. A
fine 70 against Worcestershire in the county championship which his
team lost had might clinch a place for him.
The Kanpur born player said "It was the biggest game of my life. But I
got runs and now I am back in favour and have got a Lord's final to
relish. Now I've got an even bigger game to look forward to." He
believes that some old players will be of big help to him where
nerves get him for his first final. He respects the opponents
Gloucestershire in the final and expects a mutual one from them also.
Even though Singh will work for a Brimingham Law firm this winter, his
aim is to earn an England cap and is eager to play cricket for
Warwickshire regularly. "I eat, drink and breathe the club" he says
but might have to weigh the options if things don't improve. A big
score in the Lord's final shall enable him to realise his dreams.
