Barbados: Local Cricket Battle Continues
The Barbados Nation
The battle for supremacy at the top of the Courts/Suzuki
Division 1 cricket competition continues today, the final day of
the sixth round.
Leaders Police look set for a possible win over the struggling
BNB St. Catherine when play resumes at 12:30 p.m. at Weymouth.
Led by the heroics of Stanton Proverbs (63 not out) and opener
Feliston Gilkes (56 not out), the lawmen have fought back after
surrendering first innings points to reach 144 for one, a second
innings lead of 85.
They will be looking to stretch the lead to close to 200 and
then see if veteran Sylvester Louis (who had six wickets in the
first innings) and his other bowling mates can launch an assault
on the visitors.
Over the wall, at Queen's Park, second-placed Big B Spartan and
third-placed United Carlton are locked in a ding-dong battle.
The game has taken a similar twist to the Police-St.Catherine
contest, with Spartan establishing early control before the
visitors fought back on the second afternoon.
Carlton now lead by 50 in the second innings, thanks to Adrian
Murphy (54 not out) and Orion Lewis (34 not out) and they will
aim for a major score today before letting their seam attack
loose on the Parkites.
Spartan, unlike St. Catherine, however, have been batting well
all season and Carlton will have to make sure that the target
they set is not too small.
Whatever happens, this afternoon promises to be filled with
thrills, and even spills.
