Barbados: Police And BET Widen The Gap

The Courts/Suzuki Division One cricket championship has been
confirmed as a two-club race.
Yesterday's victories by leaders Police and second-placed BET
mean that neither can be caught by the chasing teams in the race
for the first prize of a $45 000 car. Two rounds of matches
remain.
Summaries of yesterday's matches:
At Blenheim: Police beat BCL by an innings and 77 runs.
On a rain-affected pitch Police required a mere 10 overs to
complete an innings victory against BCL.
The hosts added a mere 28 runs to their overnight score of 69
for seven.
Sylvester Louis was again the destroyer, finishing the innings
with eight for 47 and match figures of 13 for 61 to take his
season's tally to 73 wickets.
When play resumed at 69 for seven captain Winston Herbert and
young Randy Thomas survived 10 torrid overs of lift and cut in
adding 23 for the eighth wicket.
Both reached the topscore of 24 before being dismissed, leaving
the veteran Tyrone Knight watching from the other end as Ian
Perryman Jr. was unable to cope with the wily Louis.
At Carlton: Cable & Wireless BET beat United Carlton by an
innings and 125 runs.
Antonio Mayers singlehandedly wrapped up the United Carlton
lower order as Cable & Wireless BET took just 34 minutes to
complete their victory.
Resuming on 35 for seven, still requiring 145 to make BET bat
again, Carlton's last three wickets could only muster another
20. Mayers captured all three wickets to finish with three for
11.
At Banks: Empire beat Banks by 43 runs.
A five-wicket haul by veteran leg-spinner Shurland Greaves
steered Empire to a convincing victory over Banks.
Greaves took five for 48 as Banks, set 176 for victory, found
the total too daunting and were bowled out with ten overs to
spare.
Empire, who led by 76 runs on first innings, quickly added
another 67 in their second innings yesterday as they batted for
just under an hour before declaring.
Banks were in trouble from the outset as they lost their first
two wickets without a run on the board and never recovered. Sean
Armstrong made a defiant 44.
At Dayrell's Road: Cockspur Wanderers drew with Big B Spartan.
Spartan grabbed first innings lead over Wanderers and the match
ended in a gripping draw.
Wanderers resumed at 172 for three requiring 106 more runs for
first innings' points, but playing conditions were in stark
contrast to last weekend because of rain over the last two days.
Wanderers lost their last seven wickets for 21 runs in 14.3
overs to hand Spartan a first innings' lead of 84. Richard
Connelly finished with seven for 53.
The hosts, set 160 for victory in 33 overs, looked to be in the
hunt at 76 for two, but declined sharply to be 88 for seven.
Patrick Phillips (22 not out) and Richard Graham (six not out)
played out the last seven overs to ensure a draw. Leg-spinner
Dave Marshall took five for 45.
At St. Catherine: BNB St. Catherine drew with Pickwick.
St. Catherine grabbed first innings' honours in a game which was
decided on the third and final day when Pickwick's innings
folded shortly before tea.
The match predictably ended in a tame draw since both first
innings were not completed until yesterday.
Pickwick were dismissed for 207 in reply to the 230 made by St.
Catherine who were 112 for four when stumps were drawn.
At Foundation: Sports and Games YMPC beat CHIC Schools South by
six wickets
Medium-pacer Kenrick Marshall bagged five wickets for 22 runs
and captain Terry Rollock took four wickets to help YMPC defeat
the schoolboys.
At Coleridge and Parry: CHIC Combined Schools drew with Mount
Gay Maple.
Maple had some batting butterflies before the match with the
schoolboys ended in stalemate.
A delay of two hours, owing to a rain-affected wicket, helped
Maple's cause. In the end they were 63 for six when they happily
accepted bad light after being set 147 for victory in 22 overs.
