The ECB Registration Committee has ruled that Yorkshire's Michael Lumb will be qualified for County Cricket after one more season. Richard Lumb who appeared in 239 first class and 135 one day matches for Yorkshire between 1970-1984 made a special plea to ECB in respect of his South Africa born son who is a British Citizen with a British passport.
Richard said "I just happened to be playing in South Africa at the time of Michael's birth and as a family we returned to England 5 weeks later where we lived for the next 5 years. It was therefore no fault of Michael's that he was not Yorkshire born".
His qualification was further complicated by his participation in the 1998 Youth World Cup when he played for South Africa under 19's.
Michael said "It is good news on my 20th birthday and I look forward to challenging for a first team place after this next season".
The left handed middle order batsman has signed a three year contract for Yorkshire having completed one season with the County's second eleven scoring 646 runs in 9 matches with a top score of 148 not out.
