Cronje wants to use English ball in South Africa
By Bob Dubery
Hansie Cronje wants to use the white Dukes ball, used in England's Axa
Sunday League and the recent Emirates Triangular Tournament, during
the one-day fixtures against the West Indies in the forthcoming
season.
The South African captain was struck by the behaviour of the Dukes
ball during the Emirates Tournament. "It swings a lot when it's new,
but when it's worn it doesn't reverse swing", he said. This behaviour
differs from that of the ball usually used in day/night series.
The Dukes ball has been earmarked by the ECB for use in next year's
World Cup. Because the ball's characteristics are unusual Cronje
feels that both South Africa and the West Indies would welcome the
chance to get accquainted with the ball before the World Cup.
