Cayman Islands Under-15 ended the tournament on a high note, thwarting a valiant Belize Under-15 effort, to narrowly win by one wicket at the Haynes Oval.
Electing to bat, most of Belize's top-order batsmen got off to good starts, but Cayman Islands hit back with wickets at regular intervals. However, a steady fifth-wicket partnership of 39 between Aaron Musslar and Darrel Young carried Belize to 138 for 5 in their allotted 30 overs. Musslar top scored for Belize with an unbeaten 25, while Joneil Bent finished as Cayman Islands' leading wicket-taker with 2 for 23.
Cayman Islands' chase got off to a shaky start with opener Anthony Dawes run out with the score on 17. New batsman Matthew Suberan however, stabilized the innings with 29. They looked to be cruising, but for a late push by Belize. Cayman Islands lost four wickets within the space of 24 runs, but eventually scampered through with seven balls remaining. Suberan finished as the leading run-scorer, and Wayne Cato and Paul Laidlaw chipped in with 20 runs each. It was not the ideal preparation for Belize going into the final against Bahamas tomorrow, especially conceding the 54 extras that eventually proved their undoing.
