After the first Day of the Super Eights, Ian Chappell has managed to wrest the top spot from Sambit Bal. Ian now leads Sambit by 138 points.
It was two performers who made the difference for Ian. In the first game between Ireland and New Zealand, Ian had Brendon McCullum as trump, who fetched him 174. And in the second game he had Jacques Kallis, who netted a whopping 199 points. While Sambit had McCullum as well, he decided to go with AB de Villiers as his trump, who had one of his rare off days, giving Sambit just 22.
"The law of averages has caught up with me after a good run," says Sambit. "Kallis turned it around for Ian while de Villers failed, so it was a double blow for me. But there are two big matches today and I am banking on the new Indian opening pair to do it for me."
Sanjay Manjrekar is at No. 3, 159 points adrift of Sambit while David Lloyd is at No.4 with 1519.
