England's search for a leader for their ICC World Twenty20 campaign this summer got a little trickier on Saturday when Paul Collingwood ruled himself out of the running.
Twenty-four hours after Kevin Pietersen also declared he wouldn't accept the invitation, Collingwood too has already dismissed it as an option.
"I had a year in the job doing the one-dayers, and you feel as if you've had your go," Collingwood told PA. "I had my opportunity to do it. For whatever reasons, I gave up the job and I would take a lot of persuading to do the job again. Whoever takes it I'm sure will do a very good job. But there's a lot of things to happen between now and then, a coach to come in and things like that. We will have to wait and see, but I would have to take some persuading to do that job."
Since relinquishing the captaincy, Collingwood's form has shot up, but with both he and Pietersen now out of contention, England will need to consider whether they opt for one of their more experienced members to lead the side or if they choose an outside candidate such as Rob Key. Currently, Andrew Strauss is the captain in all forms of the game, though he has yet to re-establish himself as a one-day batsman having spent three years out of the team.
Despite Pietersen's insistence that he would not accept the England post, he was today named captain of his IPL side, the Bangalore Royal Challengers.
