England v South Africa 1905-06

In this match the South Africans showed overwhelming strength in batting and won by 243 runs

15-Apr-2001
In this match the South Africans showed overwhelming strength in batting and won by 243 runs. The English bowling was thoroughly mastered on the fourth day, runs coming very fast. White played splendid cricket for four hours, hitting two 6's and nineteen 4's. The Englishmen had 440 to get in the fourth innings, and the task proved far beyond their powers. Not for a moment did they look like winning. They lost two wickets for fourteen runs before the close of Tuesday's cricket, and on the following day only Denton and Crawford played Snooke's fine bowling with confidence. The victory gave South Africa the rubber, and the result naturally aroused great enthusiasm. Fane played admirably in the Englishmen's first innings, staying for four hours and giving no chance.
