0 Number of times before this West Indies had lost a Test to Sri Lanka by an innings. They have lost seven Tests to Sri Lanka, six of which have come from ten away Tests. This was also West Indies' first loss in four away-Tests to Sri Lanka. They had drawn all the three Tests on their last tour here in 2010.
2001 The last time a team had won by an innings in a Test in Galle before Sri Lanka in this match. The hosts had beaten England by an innings and 28 runs. Overall this was only the third win by an innings margin for any team at this venue with Sri Lanka having won each of them.
5 Number of ten-wicket match hauls by Rangana Herath including the one he took in this Test. Among spinners, only five others have taken more such hauls than him. Abdul Qadir and Harbhajan also have five such hauls.
3 Number of ten-wicket match hauls Herath has taken in Galle. Only two other bowlers have taken more 10-fors at a venue than him. Muttiah Muralitharan did this at three different venues: he took five such hauls in Kandy and four in Galle and the SSC. The other bowler is Dennis Lillee, who took four 10-fors at the MCG. No other bowler has more than two such hauls at any venue.
37 Number of Tests West Indies have now lost by an innings including this one. Their last innings defeat before this one had come against South Africa in Centurion, when they lost by an innings and 220 runs.
1968 The last time a West Indies batsman got a hundred from No. 5 or lower in a Test after following-on. Garry Sobers had made 113 against England in Jamaica. Jermaine Blackwood came close to doing it with 92 in West Indies' second innings. Blackwood has now a hit a fifty-plus score in seven of 11 Tests he has played. He has made 722 runs in 20 innings at an average of 42.47 including one hundred and six fifties.
9.85 Marlon Samuels' batting average against Sri Lanka in Tests. The duck in West Indies' second innings was the eighth time he had been dismissed in single-digits against them in 15 innings. Among batsmen who have had at least 15 top-order innings against an opposition in Tests, Samuels in now only the third batsman to average less than 10. Australia's Charlie Turner too averaged exactly 9.85 against England from 15 innings and New Zealand's Ken Rutherford averaged just 6.78 from 15 innings against West Indies.
2005 The last time the captain of a team was run-out in a Test after his team was made to follow-on before Jason Holder in this match: a famous run-out involving Ricky Pointing fourth Test of the 2005 Ashes. Overall, there have been only eight such instances.
1988 The last time a West Indies batsman got out stumped in both innings of the Test before Kemar Roach in this match. Jeff Dujon had got out in this manner to Narendra Hirwani in both the innings of the Chennai Test. While Dujon was the only batsman to be stumped in West Indies' first innings in that Test, four other West Indies batsmen joined Dujon in the second. Roach's instance in this Test was the fifth for West Indies and the 19th overall.
