Nasser Hussain has given a broad hint that England may make changes to their squad before the tour of Sri Lanka.
Writing for The Sunday Telegraph, Hussain remarked that: "16 players have been contracted for here (Pakistan) and Sri Lanka, and we can leave them behind or take somebody else."
Hussain and Fletcher have been successful in improving the team spirit of the England set-up, partly due to their policy of continuity of selection. They will have to weigh the benefits of this against the need for a change of personnel.
Hick and Salisbury will have a particularly anxious wait. Both have under-performed on the tour of Pakistan, and may have enjoyed their last opportunities as Test players.
Hussain also commented that: "There is too much cricket being played." He suggested that he may take the lead of Graham Thorpe and benefit from taking a winter off, writing: "I look at Graham Thorpe as an example of how a winter off can rejuvenate you and wish for a bit of the same for a lot of us, including myself."
