Illegal bowling actions and technology on Cricket Committee agenda in Dubai

A discussion on illegal bowling actions leads the agenda of the ICC's Cricket Committee meeting beginning in Dubai on Thursday (13 May)

A discussion on illegal bowling actions leads the agenda of the ICC's Cricket Committee meeting beginning in Dubai on Thursday (13 May).
Also on the agenda is;
  • A report on the technology trials conducted last year;
  • Proposals for future technology trials;
  • A report on 2003-04 umpire and referee performance; and
  • A review of a number of rules and playing conditions.
  • The 12-member Cricket Committee (CC), previously known as the Cricket Committee-Playing (CC-P), meets annually and is chaired by former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar.
    The CC will review the existing two-stage process for dealing with illegal bowling actions to assess if it continues to be the most appropriate way to address the issue, and will make recommendations following on from the discussion.
    The ICC Cricket Committee is an advisory body to the ICC, making recommendations to the ICC's Chief Executive's Committee (formerly the Cricket Committee-Management) and considering matters or issues relating to the game or the playing of the game.
    It comprises six members nominated by the players and six representatives nominated by Member boards. Of the 12-member committee, 10 representatives (five player-nominated and five board-nominated) come from Test-playing countries.
    This is the second year that this meeting will contain representatives nominated directly by current international players. The ICC is committed to involving players in the decision-making process and this meeting is supplemented by annual meetings with the captains of the Test-playing nations.
    In October 2003 the ICC Board also agreed to recognise all player associations that are recognised by their home boards, establishing a formal consultation process on a range of common player issues.
    Attending this year's CC meeting is:
    Ehsan Mani (ICC President), Malcolm Speed (ICC Chief Executive), Sunil Gavaskar (Chairman).
    Full members - player nominated: Tim May (Australia), Angus Fraser (England), Iqbal Qasim (Pakistan), Errol Stewart (South Africa), Tiger Pataudi (India).
    Full members - board nominated: John Reid jnr (New Zealand), Michael Findlay (West Indies), Athar Ali Khan (Bangladesh), Aravinda de Silva (Sri Lanka), Kevin Arnott (Zimbabwe).
    Associate Member Representatives: Roland Lefebvre (Holland - player nominated), Harilal Shah (Kenya - board nominated).
