BCCI's Condition For India Participating in CBFS tourneys.
The BCCI has set certain conditions that the CBFS should fulfill
before India decides to participates in tournaments in Sharjah.
The BCCI pres, I.S.Bindra informed newsmen of the board' decision
here on Sat'day. The board working committee today set 5 condtions for CBFS to meet before the proposed Australasia cup at
Sharjah in April, 1993 (I think the paper meant 1994). The last
time Ind played at Sharjah was in Oct, 1991.
The board would like the CBFS to ensure that a cricket match
would not be treated as a war between India and Pakistan.
"Cricket should be used to promote friendship", Mr.Bindra said
referring to the acrimony created between Ind and Pak everytime the teams clashed at Sharjah.
The other conditions set up board are:
1. Appointment of neutral umps should be done by ICC and not CBFS
2. There should be an ICC match referee for the tournament
3. The tech committee should have a rep of each participating
country
4. The CBFS should adopt specific crowd control measure so that
there is no display of ill-feelings against any country
The working committee authorised Mr.Bindra to take a final decision after satisfying himself on the steps taken by CBFS.
Other news:
* On the issue of Registration of players, the board has decided
to offer contracts to some players on the lines of England and
Australia. The President has been authorised to work out the details and finalise. He said, "We would like to consult all concerned, including the players".
(ALL - who, other than the players ?)
* Board has received a proposal from Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) to sponsor an Internation OD tourney in 1995 which
happens to be CII's centenary year. The board will consider this
subject to the availability of teams...
(Surfeit of ODs - I hope they have test match tourney like this
involving many test teams)
* Ajit Wadekar retained as Cricket Manager for the forthcoming
test series with Sri Lanka.
* Sandip Patil has been chosen the manager for the Indian youth
team against the visiting Australian youth team. (Feb 10 to Mar
28. 3 tests and 3 Ods)
* Srilanka offers the host the India - Pakistan match, if it
comes about in the next world cup, to avoid any disruption to the
match.
