England's Simon Jones is recuperating following a successful operation to remove a bone spur on his right ankle.
Jones, who will miss England's tour to Pakistan, is on crutches following the surgery but is hopeful of recovering in time for the tour to India in February. Peter Gregory, the ECB's chief medical officer, has experience in these injuries: he supervised the successful recuperation of Andrew Flintoff following a similar operation prior to the Ashes.
Jones's place on the Pakistan tour was taken by Durham's Liam Plunkett. Jones is joined by Chris Tremlett on the sidelines after a hamstring injury he first suffered in May this year failed to heal in time, forcing him out of the tour of Pakistan.
