Maharashtra skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar displayed a fine all-round
performance to guide his team to a six wicket victory over Gujarat in their
Ranji One-Day West Zone League match at the GSFC ground in Baroda on
Wednesday.
Gujarat, put in to bat, scored 209 in 49.5 overs. Nilesh Modi (41) and
Tejas Varsani (58) gave respectability to the total after Gujarat had lost
three wickets for 55 runs. Kanitkar put his offspinners to good use bagging
four wickets for 35 runs. Sameer Shaikh and Iqbal Siddiqui picked up two
wickets each.
In Maharashtra's reply, Abhijit Kale (43 not out) gave Kanitkar (71) good
support to guide them to a comfortable victory in the 45th over. Opener
Jaideep Narse chipped in with a useful 37. Maharashtra picked up two points
for their second win in the tournament.
