Leicestershire County Cricket Club has announced a surplus of £28,329 (before tax) compared with £43,706 for the previous year.
The Club's locally generated income rose by 10% during the year but a small decline in the ECB distribution resulted in total income rising by only £40,000 over 1998 figures.
Club Treasurer Roger Goadby commented:
"Our income from the ECB is dealt with on a cash received basis and as at the end of the financial year we had not received our share of the World Cup surplus, which is anticipated to be in the order of £53,000, however we did also receive £72,000 compensation during the year for our two World Cup participants - Vince Wells and Alan Mullally - and the international appearances made by Alan Mullally, Aftab Habib and Darren Maddy.
"We have continued to invest in a top quality team with players' salaries rising by 10% and we had budgeted for a further increase in playing costs during 2000.
"The Balance Sheet remains strong with net assets of £1.8 million but we must continue to expand income from all sources, in particular non-cricketing activities, in order to enjoy top quality cricket at Grace Road."
The club also announced that long-serving Administration secretary, Kevin Hill, and scorer Geoff Blackburn, are being proposed to AGM for election as Honorary Life Members of the club.
The AGM of the club will be held on April 17.
