The Indian Cricket Board's Anti-Corruption Commissioner K Madhavan
will not summon any more players in connection with the betting and
match-fixing scandal and will submit his report to the Board on
November 25.
Madhavan told PTI in New Delhi that he was still awaiting comments
from the Board on observations made by CBI against its functioning and
added it had sought a couple of days more before framing its reply
since the Board members needed to consult each other. The report in
respect of the Board would be submitted on November 27, he added.
As regards the CBI findings against players and others in respect of
betting and match-fixing, Madhavan said he did not consider it
necessary to summon any more persons.
"After considering the CBI report and the statements made before me by
the players and others, I do not consider it necessary to summon and
examine any other person in regard to the inquiry which I am doing in
my capacity as BCCI Commissioner," said Madhavan, who was asked by the
BCCI chief AC Muthaiah to make an in-house inquiry based on the CBI
report on the scandal.
Madhavan said as already indicated by him earlier, he would be
submitting the report to Muthaiah in Chennai on November 25.
However, he said the BCCI has requested some more time to furnish its
replies to the observations made by CBI in respect of the Board.
"I have been told the delay is due to necessity of members of the BCCI
having to consult each other in submitting the replies and their
frequent touring in connection with their own commercial and
industrial activities," Madhavan said, adding "as the extension of
time sought by the BCCI is only two days, I have acceded to their
request."
The Anti-corruption Commissioner said "so far as the BCCI's role is
concerned, I would be submitting a supplementary report on November
27."
Madhavan said the report he proposed to submit on Saturday "will
relate to only the individual persons, who have been named by the CBI
in its report for allegedly involved in betting and match-fixing."
Referring to the supplementary report, Madhavan said "it has been
promised that the BCCI's reply would delivered to me on November 26."
Madhavan questioned former skippers Mohammed Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja,
prolific Delhi batsman Ajay Sharma, wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia, former
all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar and former team physiotherapist Ali Irani.
All the five players have been named by the CBI in its report on
betting and match fixing which was submitted to the Government on
October 30.
Madhavan also questioned BCCI treasurer Kishore Rungta and Feroz Shah
Kotla's groundsman Ram Adhar. While the former has been alleged by the
CBI of "nepotism" in the Rajasthan Cricket Board, the charge against
the latter is that he prepared a doctored pitch for the India-
Australia Test match in 1996.
