The Pakistan Cricket Board's Advisory Board has, in consensus announced
the Pakistan Cricket Team for the First One Day International scheduled
to be played on February 13, 2000 at National Stadium, Karachi.
Saeed Anwar (Captain), Aamer Sohail, Younis Khan, Yousuf Youhana, Imran Abbas,
Moin Khan, Abdur Razzaq, Wasim Akram, Saqlain Mushtaq, Zahid Saeed, Yasir Arafat, Shoaib Malik, Faisal Iqbal, Imran Nazir, Shahid Nazir.
Wasim Akram has voluntarily decided to step down as captain of Pakistan
Cricket due to his family obligations and to concentrate more towards
his increasing domestic commitments. He considers it as his privilege
and an honour to represent Pakistan and will be available as an ordinary
member for the forthcoming series and more.
He aspires to reach his cricketing zenith by breaking the world test record for maximum wickets and enjoys full support of the cricket management in Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board fully respects his commitment and aspirations.
Pakistan Cricket Board, with an eye for the future has attempted at
providing blend of youth and experience and the announced team depicts
the constructive idea.
Some of the senior players those toured Australia recently have been
rested but PCB management assures they will be duly considered for the
future commitments as required.
Shoaib Akhtar has not been included on the team for the 1st one-day
international primarily on disciplinary reasons and will certainly be
considered for the rest of the series.
Whilst the Pakistan Cricket Board Management, respects and supports
every national cricketer, it expects them to serve with distinction and
as true ambassadors of Pakistan, maintaining players' code of conduct.
