The grand final of the SP Cup 'A' Grade competition was played last Saturday in Port Moresby, with Hoods defeating defending premiers Mobil Steamships by 52 runs.
Hoods captain Navu Maha was the outstanding player, top-scoring with 30 in his side's total of 154 (a recovery from 76 for 6), and then taking 4/22 as the Steamships ran aground on 102. Neither side, however, will be competing in the six-team National Club Championships to be held at Lae over Easter.
In the women's final at the Colts Ground, Port Moresby on Saturday, United (68 all out) were eight-run victors over Poreporena (60).
Papua New Guinea are an associate member of the ICC who have competed in every ICC Trophy tournament. It is understood that the West Indies are likely to play a match in PNG in conjunction with their 2000/01 Australian tour.
