The Sri Lankan sports ministry has been instructed to begin the process of holding elections of office bearers for the interim committee currently running Sri Lanka Cricket. Jeevan Kumaranatunga, the sports and youth affairs minister, held the first stage of interviews.
Cricket was one of seven sports to be put under the control of an interim committee - including cycling, karate and kabbadi - following a series of crises that occurred during the past year, which resulted in Jayantha Dharmadasa taking control and armed police physically taking over the board.
The problems have now receded somewhat and by conducting elections the minister expects the associations to function democratically.
