Sri Lanka A continued their impressive showing on their tour of England with another dominating display, this time against Glamorgan at Swansea. After Glamorgan opted to bat, they sunk to 169 all out, with Suraj Mohamed taking 5 for 40. Sri Lanka A then closed a good day's work at 178 for 3.
Suraj, the five-wicket hero, will take all the plaudits, but it was Nuwan Kulasekara who got Sri Lanka on their way with the early scalps of Mark Wallace and David Hemp. Ranga Dias then bowled England hopeful Michael Powell for 3, and Glamorgan had stuttered to 51 for 3.
Matthew Elliott and Jonathan Hughes clubbed together a recovery of sorts, but they both fell to Suraj in the 40s, and that was the start of Glamorgan's slide downhill. Ian Thomas and Robert Croft both departed cheaply before Suraj and Bathiya Perera cleaned up the tail with the last four wickets falling for only 27 runs.
Sri Lanka, batting earlier than they would have expected, did make a bad start when Shantha Kalavitigoda was caught by Hemp off David Harrison for a three-ball duck, but Ian Daniel, Jehan Mubarak and Perera made sure Sri Lanka A stayed on top. After Shantha Kalavitigoda was caught behind off Harrison for 14, Daniel made his way to 55, with eight fours, before he was also caught, off Dean Cosker.
Mubarak and Perera then shared an unbroken stand of 69 before the close. Mubarak was unbeaten on 60, including nine fours and a six, while Perera made a lively 43 from 48 balls as Sri Lanka A ended the day firmly with honours, and with a slender nine-run lead.
