Gordon Templeton, a former sports producer and presenter, has been appointed as the new media liaison officer of the South African team. He replaces Moabi Litheko, who resigned in February to join the South African Broadcasting Corporation.
Templeton, whose stint begins with the tour of Sri Lanka later this month, has been appointed till the World Cup in the West Indies next year. His contracted period also includes the ICC Champions Trophy, South Africa's home series against India and Pakistan, and all domestic matches. Gerald Majola, Cricket South Africa's chief executive, announced his appointment and also highlighted South Africa's packed season ahead.
"Gordon Templeton has been appointed as media liaison for the Proteas because he brings to the job an appreciation of the requirements of the media, the national team and the vision of Cricket South Africa to make the game a truly national sport of winners," Majola said. "We are confident that Gordon will be a positive communications asset for South African cricket during the challenging season that lies ahead, which culminates in the World Cup in the West Indies in March next year."
Templeton has a background in sports marketing and psychology as well as a Level 2 coaching qualification. He has worked with two national radio stations, Metro FM and SA FM as a sports presenter and producer.
