All the world's cricketers walked into a bar. The LOLs, the chatter, and the occasional mini-brawls, they were endless. And the news cycle was never the same again! Welcome to ESPNcricinfo's Social Buzz, your go-to destination for all the bantz, the jousts, and little bit of eavesdropping from the social media playground and beyond.
Kane Williamson's shoulder is still not ready for the stress of a T20I, while Virat Kohli didn't really need to be out in the middle, India having won the series already. What better than find a 'captains' corner' and have a little catch-up, discuss life, the universe, and everything, while the boys slug it out in the middle?
Shami's smashing it, at the ping-pong
Mohammed Shami has had a couple of T20Is off too, and has made decent use of the extra time - brushing up on his TT skills. He loves the way that's going, clearly.
Sune Luus photo-bombs Laura Wolvaardt's pic with Virat Kohli
Cricketers are also cricket fans, you know. Twenty-year-old South Africa opener Laura Wolvaardt
, on tour with her team in New Zealand, was pretty chuffed to get a photo with Virat Kohli. And her team-mate Sune Luus (back, left) looks just as happy to be photo-bombing Wolvaardt.
New Zealand U-19 players behave like total New Zealanders
God, New Zealand, can you go away and let us all live like the pathetic, mean-spirited slobs we're meant to be.
When West Indies Under-19 batsman Kirk McKenzie, having struggled with cramps previously, was dismissed for 99 and dejectedly limping off the ground during the World Cup match in Benoni
, New Zealand fielders Jesse Tashkoff and Joey Field came to help carry him off the ground. Cue paens on New Zealand's spirit of cricket and sportsmanship.
Mohammed Shami's Malayalam movie dialogue
India won the third T20I against New Zealand, in Hamilton
, after prevailing in the Super Over. But that the game finished in an unexpected tie at the end of New Zealand's chase was due to some masterful bowling by Mohammed Shami in the 20th over. He prevented New Zealand from getting the two runs they needed off the final four balls, forcing the game into the Super Over. In this video, Shami plays doubles table tennis with team-mate Sanju Samson and after hitting a smash, he shouts: "Shami hero aada
hero!" referencing a famous dialogue from a hit Malayalam film Kumbalangi Nights
. So you are, Shami.
The win gave India the T20I series with two games still to go. Virat Kohli was pleased.
Chahal teaches Kohli and Rohit Sharma to bat
Now we know who India's real batting coach is.
MS Dhoni 'desperate' to be interviewed by Chahal
How do players spend their time travelling to and from venues on the team bus? Most of them watch something or listen to music or stare out of the window (they are just like us!), but not when Yuzvendra Chahal
is around. In this video, Chahal interviews his team-mates on the bus back from the second T20I, in Auckland, sometimes while lying across their laps. He asks Jasprit Bumrah why he hasn't come out to dinner with him; and claims MS Dhoni is dying to be interviewed by him. He points to an empty seat at the back of the bus, saying that's Dhoni's and that no one still sits in it.
Manjrekar and Jadeja are now pals or something?
When beefs turn to banter: Sanjay Manjrekar
and Ravindra Jadeja
picked up from where they left off, but this time it was altogether more pleasant. When Manjrekar suggested the Player of the Match in India's seven-wicket win in Auckland
should have been a bowler, Jadeja was like... which one?
In July last year, Jadeja had angrily reacted to Manjrekar's description of him as a "bits and pieces player", by tweeting:
Martin Guptill swears in Hindi!
TV viewers in India were left slack-jawed when they heard Martin Guptill
use a Hindi cuss word during the live broadcast of the second T20I, in Auckland. Guptill was chatting with Rohit Sharma when Yuzvendra Chahal walked up to them, holding the broadcaster's mike. "What's up, boys?" said Chahal and Guptill replied with, "Kya hai, g****
?" Sharma doubled up in laughter while Chahal frantically told Guptill they were live on air.
Missed all the chatter last week? Catch up on it here.
