Tissot Cup: Last round of preliminary matches today

KARACHI, April 11: The first phase in the National One-day Cup Cricket Championship reaches it conclusion tomorrow (Monday) with the last round of matches.

Reigning champions Allied Bank and Karachi Blues from Pool C have already qualified for the eight-team final round where they are joined by Habib Bank and PIA from pools B and D respectively.

Therefore, the focus falls on Pool A where Karachi Whites, Pakistan Customs and PNSC are battling for the two spots after accumulating 12 points each from four matches.

PNSC are almost assured of a final round berth because they meet the unfancied Quetta at the Defence Stadium.

The match of the day is scheduled for National Stadium where Pakistan Customs and Karachi Whites will be facing other with one of them facing elimination.

National Bank, currently second in Pool B with 12 points, meet third-placed Lahore City at the LCCA Ground. A handsome win here for the association team could decide the second qualifier from this pool on net run-rate.

WAPDA and KRL are both vying for a place in the final round from Pool D. Both face weaker opponents in Islamabad and Peshawar respectively with WAPDA favourites to qualify because their net run-rate is far superior to that of KRL.
