Michael Vaughan doesn't want to rush back into international cricket just as yet, saying that he requires more match practice with Yorkshire before contemplating a return. He has been out of the international fold since the start of the tour of India in February, battling a knee injury.
Vaughan has had a decent start to the county season, scoring two half-centuries in three matches, including a run-a-ball 67 in a C&G Cup match, his first outing at the crease. However, after scoring 56 in a County Championship match against Hampshire, he admitted feeling a few aches and pains and stood down from Sunday's match.
"I know that it's hard for people to accept that I am playing for Yorkshire and not England but I am some way off being at an international standard of fitness at the moment," Vaughan told BBC Sport. "I have been hidden a bit in the field in this game and I have to make sure that when I come back for England I am 100 percent fit. My body has to get used to twisting and turning and all the other movements you have to do."
Vaughan targeted the series against Pakistan to mark his return, and it is likely that the selectors will give him an extended run with Yorkshire, instead of rushing him into the squad for the five ODIs against Sri Lanka beginning June 17.
