CHERRY Tree brought their incredible double winning season to a
close with a crushing victory over Whalley in the Vaux
Ribblesdale League.
John Hughes took 5-20 wickets as Whalley were bowled out for 54,
but Cherry Tree lost six wickets as they secured maximum points
and continued their 23 game unbeaten league run.
Clitheroe defeated Great Harwood with Mark Bolton rounding off
his season in style with an innings of 61, backed up by Jonathan
Fielding's half century.
Matthew Cheesbrough captured five wickets, but could not get the
final victim as Clitheroe held on at 227-9. Fielding rounded off
the match with a six wickets performance as Harwood reached
129-9 in 27 overs.
Teenager Andrew Jaggers staked his claim to a first team place
next season when he took 6-47 in Earby's win over Blackburn
Northern. Northern's innings ended on 158-8 and Earby raced to a
10 wicket win with professional Jonathan Harvey undefeated on
105 and Nigel Hodge 55 not out. Read comfortably beat Baxenden
with Shahid Nawaz on form with both bat and ball in the
nine-wicket victory.
Oswaldtwistle Immanuel took the honours against Settle, setting
a target of 200-4 declared after just 23 overs with Roger Watson
71 and Matthew Lawrence 65 not out. Settle reached 146-6 in 31
overs with Tim Green 71.
There was no play in the game between Edenfield and Barnoldswick
and Ribblesdale also had to settle for two points against
Padiham despite an innings of 90 from Gurinder Singh and Mark
Harvey's 50 not out for Padiham.
