Darren Lehmann's rapid 47 helped South Australia to a near-impregnable position on the third day of their Pura Cup match at the WACA. It enabled him to set Western Australia an distant victory target of 497, and they had reached 1 for 41 by the close. Marcus North was the man out for 16, but Justin Langer was still there, giving WA a slender hope of an unlikely result.
SA had clinched the first-innings points - and a lead of 279 - in the first over of the day when Dan Cullen bowled Ben Edmondson to finish with 5 for 38.
Lehmann decided to bat again, rather than enforcing the follow-on, and although wickets fell regularly - Brett Dorey took four, and Ryan Campbell collected five catches behind the stumnps - the lead was growing all the time.
