The world cricket spotlight could shine on the WACA Ground later this year with Australia on target to break a world record in Perth.
The WACA is preparing for a cricket bonanza from December 1 to 5 when it hosts the second Ansett Australia Test between the all-conquering Australians and the West Indies.
Australia go into the series with 10 consecutive Test wins behind them, knowing they could equal the West Indies' world record (11) in the first Test at the 'Gabba. Victory for Australia in Brisbane would then put the eyes of the world on the WACA.
"We're very excited at the prospect of hosting what could become a landmark match in the history of Test cricket," said WACA President, Mr Brian Rakich.
"It's particularly exciting given the recent resurgence of the West Indies on the Test arena. We're also pleased to have our Test match early in the summer with the series well and truly alive. "
Australia last played the West Indies in the fifth Test at the WACA in 1997. The clash attracted 27,775 fans in extreme February heat with the series already decided in Australia's favour.
The WACA will also host Carlton and United Series one-day internationals between the West Indies and Zimbabwe on Friday, February 2, 2001 (day/night) while Australia play Zimbabwe on Sunday, February 4, 2001 (day match).
The West Indies arrive in Perth on November 3 and play an ACB Chairman's Xl in the traditional tour opener at Lilac Hill on Tuesday, November 7. They then play a four-day match against the Western Warriors at the WACA from November 9 to 12.
