The West Indies A team won the first one day international against
India A at Albion, Guyana on Wednesday by four wickets.
After dismissing the visitors for 203 in 50 overs, the home team,
thanks to a fine 50 by Azeemul Haniff, scored 204 for six.
The remaining two games in the three match series will be played on
Saturday and Sunday at Grenada.
The two match `Test' series was even with both games being drawn.
The venue for the opening match was the Albion Community Development
Centre ground, Berbice, some 80 miles outside the capital city. It was
also the venue for the first-ever One-day International to be played
in the region when West Indies took on Pakistan in 1977.
On Sunday, the Indian team had gone down fighting to Guyana in a one
day match. In a cliffhanger of a finish, the Indians stoutly defended
their modest total of 149 for nine in 50 overs before Guyana got the
winning run off the last of the final over after losing nine wickets
in the process. Azeemul Haniff top scored with 52 for the home team.
