Avoiding a simple handshake - can it ever be called an act of bravery

THE HANDSHAKE
Avoiding a simple handshake - can it ever be called an act of bravery? If this is not ignorance and cowardice, what else underlies such an evil thought? Is it courage to destroy one another? [It may be for Hayden as he thrashed a window pane in the recent VB series.] Is it wise to nurture mistrust, malice and hatred? [Perhaps he is too close to racist Lehmann]. Is mutual reverence and respect, intelligence or stupidity? Is the source from where all human beings have emerged different?
As you think so you become. Bullshit might get you to the top but it won't keep you there. Everything that comes out of a human being stinks. The only sweet things that can come out of a man are his words. However, even if his words stink then there is no worth to that human being. Our attack should be targeted to destroy evil thoughts in human beings and not human beings.
If the train journey can inspire the poet in Langer on his last trip here, I just hope the WC fixture here might transform another Aussie into a good human being - a sensitive human being!

GOOD LUCK
Good luck to the guys in the forthcoming World Cup and here is hoping they can focus on their cricket and not all this lunacy surrounding it as I am sure everyone involved with Zim cricket more than knows our plight!
A proud Zimbo.

BEST WISHES TO THE TEAM
Firstly a big thank you for all the excellent newsletters - I read them voraciously each week! But secondly, this letter is really to send my best wishes to the Zimbabwe cricket squad for their cup campaign. The series win over South Africa A was very heartening and a perfect boost for the weeks ahead. What a fantastic opportunity this will be to contest the World Cup in front of the home fans. A slot in the Super Six will be a fantastic achievement and a great reward for players and fans alike. So come on,
Zimbabwe - give it your all!

MORE GOOD LUCK
I really enjoy reading your Zimbabwe cricket pages and hope the Zims are a surprise package the World Cup. You need a bit of good news at this stage.
I do have a question - as regards the provincial cricket setup. Do you have a map showing all the provinces of Zimbabwe? I have no idea where Manicaland, Matabeleland, etc., are in relation to Zimbabwe as a whole. Obviously cricket is only played in certain areas in Zimbabwe but it would be nice to know geographically where these provinces are.
Bernard Duff (?)
Reply: Unfortunately I do not have the means to put a map on the site. Basically Mashonaland (centre Harare) is towards the northeast of the country, Matabeleland (Bulawayo) towards the southwest; Midlands (Kwekwe) is naturally in the centre, while Manicaland is along the eastern border.
WORLD CUP NONSENSE
If the English and Australian teams boycott their World Cup matches I hope they are penalized and all points forfeited. This should see Zimbabwe through to the Super Six.
I can't believe the nonsense being broadcast and published here and presumably England regarding these games. The players couldn't be any less safe in Zimbabwe than in crime-rife Jo'burg and Cape Town.
The actions of Australia, England and New Zealand risk splitting world cricket and the Commonwealth between white and black. I hope that common sense prevails and that the Australian match in Bulawayo on February 24 goes ahead.
I like the look of the Zimbabwean World Cup team. I've always been a fan of Travis Friend who, along with Andy Blignaut, I believe could produce some upset results for Zim. Good luck.
