Sri Lanka Cricket has requested a postponement of the three-Test home series against South Africa scheduled for July and August next year, until 2014 or later, in order to accommodate a triangular one-day series. That tri-series, involving West Indies and India, is itself a rescheduled fixture, after Sri Lanka's two Tests in the West Indies that clashed with the end of the IPL were culled from the fixtures list.

Instead of touring the West Indies before the Champions Trophy in June, the tri-series will now take place after the Champions Trophy, meaning there is not enough time to play the Tests against South Africa before the SLPL is set to begin. CSA has said it is reviewing SLC's request, but they will have to weigh up broadcasters' interests before taking their decision.

"We are not keen on cancelling Tests," CSA acting chief executive Jacques Faul said. "It goes through a process where we send it to the team management and then the logistics manager. We try to help other countries as much as we can but they will have to give reasons for wanting no Tests. When you cancel Tests, you've got to be careful because there are broadcasting issues."

The request to change the tour programme is a continuation of the SLC's recent trend of culling Tests from Sri Lanka's schedule. In addition to the Tests in the West Indies that have been scrapped, two Tests against India in July this year became five ODIs, and a Twenty20 and the three Tests scheduled for England in March became a two-Test series as the IPL approached.

SLC CEO Ajit Jayasekara said the SLPL "always had a window" in Sri Lanka's international schedule, and was not the reason SLC has requested the Tests to be rescheduled. According to the Future Tours Programme, South Africa's tour, which included five ODIs and three Twenty20s, would have begun early in July and ended late in August. The SLPL is likely to begin in early August.

While the dates of the Test series are as yet unclear, the two boards have agreed to play five ODIs and two of the three Twenty20s scheduled for the tour. Jayasekara said that given Sri Lanka will have recently played the Champions Trophy and the tri-series, it would be more beneficial for the team to play more limited-overs cricket, instead of doing away with the limited-overs matches to make way for Tests. If the three Tests are postponed, Sri Lanka only have four Tests scheduled between January and December in 2013, against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

South Africa last toured Sri Lanka in 2006 when they played two Tests; the rest of the tour was cancelled after the visitors pulled out due to security reasons.

I believe making room for SLPL is a good thing coz we all saw it gives a good opportunity for youngsters. If SLPL was't theie we people will never know players like Akila, Munaweera, A. perera etc... but why waiting our test matches for IPL and CLT specially IPL. BCCI didn't allow Indian players to participate in SLPL and now SLC is postponing our test matches for IPL.. pathetic. We can't ask players to play for country instead of money that's a decision that they have to make. If senior players don't want to play in test matches let some youngsters to take that opportunity. then every one will be happy. I don't know whether there are some regulations which we can't do that

Posted by Haleos on (November 1, 2012, 14:00 GMT)

now people will blame IPL. fact is SL players earn big bucks in IPL and SLC is not brave enough to go against BCCI.

Posted by M_Rakibul_Islam on (November 1, 2012, 12:52 GMT)

Shame for Lankan board. SLC r running after money like BCCI, PCB, BCB etc. They know IPL, SLPL & tri-series against INDIA will b more profitable financially. But it's not good for their cricket. SA is a top side & SL should take chance for playing Test against them at any season. Now they r postponing it for several months.

Why, oh why, oh why??? A sad day for test cricket

Posted by lankan_cricket on (October 31, 2012, 20:42 GMT)

@LankanGOd. I think SA were coming to SL but I dont think anyone wants to watch test cricket in the flat tracks we have. One team scores 600 and the other boring

Posted by LankaGod on (October 31, 2012, 17:48 GMT)

I know India matches fuel TRPs, but this is more overkill than anyone wants. I wonder how BCCI agreed to another India v SL series. We blame the BCCI for all evils and now are killing tests ourselves! There is hardly a chance that we can win the series in SA but how often do we get that opportunity playing outside the subcontinent.

Posted by d1n0 on (October 31, 2012, 17:09 GMT)

Really??? Yet another series with India is what SL needs? Can't believe we are throwing away a chance to play and learn in SA for another boring series with IND!!

Posted by yorkslanka on (October 31, 2012, 15:37 GMT)

Silly decision, who cares about sl v india again... Administrators need to get their head screwed on and stop ruining test cricket..

Posted by   on (October 31, 2012, 15:28 GMT)

I support SL Cricket, but this is just ridiculous. Why change a 3 test series to a Tri-Series? I think the South Asians are trying to get rid of Test Cricket, as they have no hope of winning any matches. IMO, if the SLC keep on postponing test cricket for limited over games, the ICC should ban or punish them for a year or so.

Posted by AzAb12754 on (October 31, 2012, 13:59 GMT)

Some of you guys think Sri Lanka having 4 test matches in 2013 is bad just look at 2012 now with teams Zimbabwe and Bangladesh combined only 1 between them. Test Cricket is in a very critical state and only looks to me that it belongs to Australia, India, South Africa and England. Without India really Cricket is nothing meaning the game would've been spread to numerous countries had India did not gotten full membership. What Sri Lanka is doing is unfortunate.

Posted by PadMarley on (October 31, 2012, 13:14 GMT)

OH for god sake!!! give more test playing opportunities to our young players... this is sickening news!

Posted by   on (October 31, 2012, 13:08 GMT)

well ODI's are the pinnacle of the game now.. it's no harm playing a useless test series

Posted by   on (October 31, 2012, 12:48 GMT)

now really they are killing test cricket ,if they dont want to play it ,why isnt their test status taken away given to someone who wants to play ,like ireland and if they play also only 2 match or max 3 match ,never seen them play 4 test series and then we Indians are blamed for destroying test series ,where we have sometimes intiated test series which were not on the calender and are playing big series too ,plz world public have a open eye

Posted by burner1985 on (October 31, 2012, 12:11 GMT)

Keep saying that cricket is a sport and not entertainment. In terms of sport, test matches are the ultimate form of cricket and for those who never played any competitive cricket and think that only t20 and one day matches are interesting, go get cable tv and watch some soaps or reality tv programs. This is clear example of money talking. And who in blue blazes would be interested in seeing another India vs. SL match? I'm sure all Indian fans feel the same.

Posted by philvic on (October 31, 2012, 11:42 GMT)

real cricket fans hate this idea, but the stadia are filled by people who want to see an event, not by fans who post on this site. Unfortunately proper cricket is being killed by money. The future is bleak.

Posted by ste13 on (October 31, 2012, 11:41 GMT)

I believe this should be honoured. Let test cricket be played among the nations, where there is some interest - England, Australia and Pakistan. There is no point in scheduling series, which are disregarded by players and boards. Personally think West Indies, Sri Lanka should formally pull out of test cricket, the sooner the better. Let's face the reality - if there is no interest and will, why to push for it?

Posted by Clan_McLachlan on (October 31, 2012, 11:08 GMT)

Perhaps it's time for the return of three day Tests, maybe we can fit them into the calendar. We can also return to uncovered pitches to increase the chance of a result.

Posted by CricketPissek on (October 31, 2012, 11:05 GMT)

It's very difficult being a Sri Lanka cricket fan when those in charge are people like this. *SIGH*

Posted by PanGlupek on (October 31, 2012, 10:56 GMT)

Bit sad that a very good test team's board would rather play a pointless ODI series that everybody will forget about after a few weeks than actually play tests. Especially when teams like Ireland are desperately pushing for test status. Ok, the reasons are quite obvious, but it makes a bit of a mockery out of the talk of test cricket being the pinnacle of the game.

Still, nice to see so many comments from people who obviously want to see tests. I was starting to think most fans don't care about it either, but thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Posted by CricketMaan on (October 31, 2012, 10:00 GMT)

SL have no choice, unless they play India, they cant afford player salaries and will go bankrupt. I pity them and sympathize with them!! They have no choice to play ODI and especially against India every year. From India's point of view, thier record against SL in recent past at least in bilateral and tri-series has been a lot better, so for them there is no harm in playing and battering SL.

Posted by   on (October 31, 2012, 9:54 GMT)

@MasoodAli150..has there ever been an exciting tri-series? Most players and cricket fans can't remember what happened in an ODI if it was played last week!ODI's and T20's are Cricket for halfwits and people with the attention spans of goldfish who call themselves real fans.......Sri Lankans, express yourselves with your feet and eyes!!...DON'T GO TO THE MATCHES and DON'T WATCH THEM ON TV!! Your Board will soon get the message...stop bleating about SL v India ODI's and do something about it!! Empty the grounds and use the OFF button on your TVs!! Simple, eh??...same goes for Aussies, Brits, Indians, Kiwis and everyone else!! Delete all ODI records, ESPN Cricinfo stop providing updates, no mention of ODI's in Wisden etc etc....heaven!!

Posted by desm on (October 31, 2012, 9:46 GMT)

SLCB is crazy to cancell the SA series ? pls we ask SA board no to approve we love to see Test Cricket and hope ICC will see to this matter carfully.

Posted by   on (October 31, 2012, 9:41 GMT)

If Sri Lanka don't want to play Test cricket, perhaps they should lose their Test status and the money that comes with it. Perhaps that would change SLC's attitude towards Tests.

Posted by GRVJPR on (October 31, 2012, 9:24 GMT)

Sri lankans are killing test cricket. It seems after retirement of murali they know that they cannot compete against good teams.

Posted by GlobalCricketLover on (October 31, 2012, 8:31 GMT)

No point in playing tests at SL's life less pitches anyway. I am in Indian but strongly believe that only SA and Eng have the right play grounds for test matches. Aus used to have good ones but even theirs started behaving like sub-continental grounds except for Brisbane. Perth has also lost its sheen. I dont mean to say that only fast pitches are good, I dont mind spinning pitches but pitches like the one in SL where heavy scores are the order of the day - no fun in watching such matches.

Posted by sachin_vvsfan on (October 31, 2012, 8:24 GMT)

There has to be limit on this. Sanga once said they need rich T20 leagues to secure their families which is fine. You got to strike a balance between T20 and Test cricket. Reduce ODIs (for fans sake no more India vs SL) and play Test and T20s.

Posted by Narbavi on (October 31, 2012, 8:12 GMT)

@Gihan Abeyratne: Only the people with less knowledge would make such a comment, isn't it supposed to be your player's wishes whether to play ipl or not?? no one is forcing you

Posted by vswami on (October 31, 2012, 8:10 GMT)

All boards are hiding behind BCCI and letting them take the flak for their own greed. CA wants night cricket so that they can market test cricket to India. Journalists are culpable in this whole mess by irrationaly pointing the fingers at BCCI every time other boards make decisions in their own financial interests, at the cost of the game.

A very demoralizing situation in cricket now a days...Money is what makes every one take these kind of decisions...there is nothing wrong in inducing new things in the game...but u have to keep the real essence alive...There is IPL, CLT20, SLPL and Pak is also planning a is becoming the main priority of all the administrators and in the same way players are also attracted, which is a natural instinct...its better to hav just one window in the whole year for all the leagues rather than the whole year for all the leaugues...!!!

Posted by colombo_SL on (October 31, 2012, 7:03 GMT)

This is the bad impact of these premier league matches to the international Cricket. I think future players never feel the pride of playing for mother country. Some players prefer his league over own country. How pathetic it is. Money money money money.

Although the SLC is cash-strapped and in huge debt, so they are looking at generating revenue more from ODIs and T20 Series it is hugely unfair and violates the spirit of cricket by ignoring the ultimate test match cricket. I hope SLC get their heads straight and CSA would refuse to postpone the Tests.

Posted by Rajesh_india_1990 on (October 31, 2012, 6:38 GMT)

First they cancelled india tests and made it into 5 odi's and 1t20 and then cancelled westindies tour and make it into a tri series and now cancelled SA tests and going to play only with bangladesh and zimbabwe so that their flat track bullies sanga and mahela pile tons of runs against that hapless sides and improve their average...ICC, srilanka is not willing to play test cricket..kick this srilankan team from the test arena which does not want to play tests..cricinfo please publish

Posted by stormy16 on (October 31, 2012, 5:36 GMT)

Understand the financial predicament SLC is in and the limited options available but when you request the top test cricket nations like Eng and SA to reschedule/cancell test cricket in place of one dayers your crossing the line to being a 'cow boy cricket nation'. SL are already very competitive at limited overs cricket but average at test cricket. An alternative way to look at it is SL are the front runners in the future of cricket - test cricket is dieing a slow death and limited over cricket is the future so why mess around playing for 5 days when you can have have a 3 nation T20 series with a final and make more money than a whole year of test cricket? There will be many counter arguments on not being able to play limited over cricket unless you have the basics of test cricket ECT, but for a land that has already produced limited over specialist like Malinga - being orthodox isnt really a priority.

Posted by johnathonjosephs on (October 31, 2012, 5:32 GMT)

When i saw "tri series" on the front page, something told me India was going to be involved. Seriously, the BCCI has its hands too far up SLC's pocket. Every other series is a Sri Lanka vs India series. Both Sri Lankan and Indian fans are sick of this. I know they are saving quite a bit of money on the air fare, but seriously this is getting ridiculous

Posted by desm on (October 31, 2012, 5:27 GMT)

Pleazzzze no Tri Series enough for the moment ! we need to see more test matches being playing with qulity teams etc.

I just don't understand why Administrators in the subcontinent are making Test cricket a real farce. If monetary interests alone dictate such precedents, cricket would soon be in a sham. I sincerely hope that ICC does not allow such abysmal requests to be honoured, and being an Indian, sincerely hope that Mr BCCI does not inter fare in a negative manner in the interest of Test cricket.

How come ICC doesnt have any say in it? If a country board wants to run after money and ignore the game itself then as a governing body ICC must step in.

Posted by anver777 on (October 31, 2012, 4:08 GMT)

SL board is more keen on limited overs format, strangely forgetting the importance of Test cricket for future young cricketers..... a cricketer is not complete without test cricket, its everybody's dream in their career !!!!

Sadly SLC is run by politicaly elected administrators. This is the end result and the price we pay for electing uncontested administrators who govern our beloved game in Sri Lanka with an hidden agenda.Appalling to state the least. The Secretary is head of a media institution how can he justify his tour of duty as secretary of SLC. We hope the ICC will first and foremost put their foot down on SLC, and get them off the political virus.Hope sanity prevails and the current administration will bow out so that a legitimately elected body can put things in order. @Jarr30, obviously you hail from South Africa and still, you are smarting of that thrashing MJ and KS gave your players which included the highly decorative JK, MM, DS, HA and Co. However, it gives me the impression you just make comments for the sake of making one and facts are not taken in to consideration. Having said that, it is disgusting to note that SLC has the nerve to request cancellation of TEST MATCH CRICKET in favour of some crazy ODI tournament. We Sri Lankans are now fed up of ODI and T20 cricket, so for God's sake, let the South Africa full series take place for the betterment of cricket in this Island Nation.

Think about the fans. Or is our cricket board wanting the ICC to strip us off test status? I am so depressed to see what is happening to our cricket administration.

Crazy. Sack the SL board. It will be fun to see SL playing only Bangladesh and Zim. Sure Sanga can again win the award. Perhaps scared of getting whitewashed. Pretty much cherrypicking dates to suit your article... Also what about the SL v Pak 3 Test series scheduled to be played in Dec 2013?... So thats at least 4 Test you have conveniently forgotten about...

I don't understand why SLC is doing this. ICC highlights it and says Tests are our main priority every time they talk about all three formats then how can they let SLC do this. In my opinion real cricket is Test cricket. Today SLC is doing it for money, tomorrow another board will do it and it will go on. ICC should take notice.

I can't believe I'm reading this. Cancelling a test series against the number one side in the world to accommodate a meaningless ODI tournament. Someone desperately needs to take a stand, even against the broadcasters who will always prefer a series involving India. This is madness and will do untold harm to the game of cricket in the long run even if it will fill some underserving pockets in the short term.

this is ridiculous, a test playing nation only playing 4 test in a 12 month period against two non-test playing nations, what are we coming to?? how silly is the statement this is "Jayasekara said that given Sri Lanka will have recently played the Champions Trophy and the tri-series, it would be more beneficial for the team to play more limited-overs cricket" that makes no sense at all, why would it be more beneficial??? considering you've just played a whole tournament, thats just ludicrous.... why would you need to play MORE limited overs cricket, should be the complete opposite, obviously SL are moving to a stage of not playing test at all from the looks of it........

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 22:49 GMT)

Simplest plan of action for all SL fans is to grow a pair, vote with your feet for once and just NOT GO and WATCH these pointless, mind-numbing ODI's. Stop bleating about them and do something pro-active and leave your Board with empty stadia. Instead you moan and turn up week after week, year after year to watch these 'matches'. The same goes for other countries, even in England, where the grounds are pretty much full leading the ECB to continue to schedule them year on year. STOP GOING TO THEM TO MAKE THE HOME BOARDS STOP PUTTING THEM IN THE's as simple as that. Alternative is to take Test status off these countries and let them play their own bilateral, tri- or quad- series or whatever floats their boats and no-one outside those countries has to take any notice....from a committed ODI-hater

Thank you Andrew Fernando for highlighting the following facts which illuminate the level of HONESTY in display: "SLC CEO Ajit Jayasekara said the SLPL "always had a window" in Sri Lanka's international schedule, and was not the reason SLC has requested the Tests to be rescheduled. According to the Future Tours Programme, South Africa's tour, which included five ODIs and three Twenty20s, would have begun early in July and ended late in August. The SLPL is likely to begin in early August." I am too upset to express my true feelings without offending families... I will merely repost your words and I would let them speak for themselves. I think it is obvious to everybody on here (except possibly hit-and-gigglers like Cpt.Meanster) that this is a horrendous idea. Sri Lankans players/fans need to speak out against this. Another triseries involving India and Sri Lanka at the expense of watching Jayawardene and co take on Steyn is a ridiculous notion.

I feel SRL don't want to play tests because their team isn't up to it. Murali & Vaas have long since gone Malinga can't bowl long spells, Fernando looked good early on but injuries have taken their toll. The other seamers such as Kulasakera & Mahroof just dont have the pace to take wickets at test level. Ajantha had an incredible start but seemed to get found out quite quickly. Matthews is one of the bright young things and probably the next test captain but it looks like he will not be able to fill the all rounder role due to injury problems and will probably just end up being a batsman in everything other than T20. Most of the other young batsman seem to be more suited to the shorter forms of the game. SRL hasn't produced a top quality test batsman for the best part of a decade now and the biggest worry would be that the test batting stalwarts of Dilshan, Sangers, Jaya & Sama are all over 35, sadly the future for SRL test cricket looks bleak

Posted by the_wallster on (October 30, 2012, 21:15 GMT)

i've been saying this for three years. This i the beginning of the end of the Test game. South Africa and Sri Lanka hardly ever play Tests. The only countries that take test cricket seriously are England, Australia and Pakistan. In 5 years time the only Test cricket occurring will be the Ashes. I guarantee that.

Posted by SirViv1973 on (October 30, 2012, 20:59 GMT)

We seem to be heading toward a 2 tier test system, so why not make it official ?If you look at the last 5 years Eng,Aus,SAF & Ind play much more test cricket than the others so put them in the top tier and let them play 4 & 5 match icon series against each other. These countries centrally Contracted players also earn more than the others so there is less need for them to be involved in every mickey mouse T20 league going. I would limit the others to 2 match test series other than when Ind play Pak, and poss Aus/NZL given their local rivalries. Most of the second tier teams would then probably only play 6 - 8 tests a year which would leave plenty of time to make their money playing T20s & ODIs. I would create a new CFTP from the start of 2014 to take this in to account and bring in Ire & maybe Afgh to the lower tier.

This is the true clash between Tests and Twenty 20 and SL. makes its priorities clear. Four Tests in a year is unacceptable. Hopefully they won't be allowed to drop the Tests.

Real stupid....Sri Lanka can't beat WI or SA in Test Cricket and this is a way to avoid Test Cricket defeats

Posted by Garretjacks on (October 30, 2012, 20:28 GMT)

good god, please do all cricket lovers a favour and let the test matches continue. We DO NOT WANT TO SEE ODI... rather see Sri Lankan cricket improve by playing some tough SAfer in tests. PLEEEEEEEASEEEEEEEE!!!!

Posted by SLMaster on (October 30, 2012, 19:25 GMT)

This is really stupid from SLC. I think everyone will support a good test competition with a good SA side. Who would say no to playing a test with SA. Cancel BD and ZIM tours for SLPL or tri-series, while keeping SA tour untouched. More SL distance away from SA, ENG and AUS level test competency, less tours will be offered.

another india srilanka match-- we are sick n tired of this news/ dont want to see anymatch between this two nation in next 5 yrs

Posted by yorkslanka on (October 30, 2012, 19:01 GMT)

Silly decision, who cares about sl v india again... Administrators need to get their head screwed on and stop ruining test cricket..

Posted by bumsonseats on (October 30, 2012, 18:57 GMT)

they never seemed to have a problem playing test cricket when murili played funny that !

Posted by mihir_nam on (October 30, 2012, 18:46 GMT)

Anyways West Indies and Sri Lanka can play 2 Test in March and 3Odi's before ..Sri Lanka Cricketers bread IPL starts. and Hold Quick 6match Tri Series in WI .Involving BCCI team.before champions trophy. But teams like India needs 2day rest after every ODI. i don't know how they use to manage 6days in Sharjah heat in 80's 90's where there use to be daily one game and day night was not also introduced. Rotate players before champions trophy So no Need to postpone RSA series

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 18:31 GMT)

This is insane not only this story but another Sri Lanka - India series? even Indian fans are sick of it. A player like Virat Kohli already has 6 100s against this team and at this rate he may notch up a 100 centuries against this team. This is what kills Cricket.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 18:23 GMT)

Enough of India vs Srilanka matches for another 3 years at least.

Posted by Perplexed on (October 30, 2012, 18:04 GMT)

I hope that the noises from the SA camp will result in the correct decision: The tests must stand!

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 18:00 GMT)

This is killing cricket. Administrators making short sighted decisions. When will people realise: WE DON'T WANT ANYMORE INDIA v SRI LANKA MATCHES! Playing each other 50 times in 3 years is enough!

Posted by 6pack on (October 30, 2012, 17:54 GMT)

I concur... this is ridiculous. I never understand all the talk of test cricket still being the prime form of the game and then repeatedly cancelling tests. Especially in SL, it just appears everybody would be more than happy to just give up tests and play ODI's and T20's. It's just rubbish... guys like Sangakkara and Jayawardene preach they hold test cricket highly, but even they seem like they'd do just fine playing IPL and utterly meaningless ODI's. On the flip side, I have to say Australia, England etc., still put a lot of emphasis on tests. I guess Sri Lankans' shouldn't complain that they don't get games in Australia, SA., when they are intent on cancelling tests anyway to benefit from playing ODI's with India.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 17:51 GMT)

Horribly wrong decision, SA wont get hurt but SL cricket will surely. What a joke.. Dont even they think? Just going for money?

Posted by Tigg on (October 30, 2012, 17:44 GMT)

Hopefully the Saffers will tell them where to stick their request. Nobody cares about more India vs Sri Lanka games.

South Africa should give them a choice. Play the series as is, or play it during the SLPL.

Posted by Perera32 on (October 30, 2012, 17:41 GMT)

Pathetic form SLC, Sri lanka really need to play more tests. Why not play a tri series with WI, SA and SL??.

Posted by SasankeJ on (October 30, 2012, 17:40 GMT)

Pretty much annoyed with SLC cancelling test matches... It's the real cricket.. Countries like Australia, England, South Africa do not compromise on the test cricket schedule.. This current administration of SLC is killing test cricket for budding cricketers like Chandimal who could make great strides..

Posted by Mann123 on (October 30, 2012, 17:36 GMT)

It is quite amazing what ICC is doing here as SL keeps preferring money over good cricket. They don't want to let any opportunity go by to play a useless series against India. Now they want yet another one. Its silly that they even try to cover it up with cricketing reasons when its obvious they want to get money to pay their debt. I also wonder why BCCI keeps agreeing with them, is it all about favors, in terms of votes at the ICC at the cost of cricketer's fatigue as well as viewer's experience.

Posted by Rajputraza on (October 30, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

Sad news. We want to watch test matches.

Posted by Lakpj on (October 30, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

crazy administration, they just go after money without thinking or planning for the betterment of cricket in Sri Lanka.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 17:17 GMT)

This is ridiculous. As a cricket fan this news brings wet to my eye and really shook .What these administrates doing? How you cancel two test tour with in year and against country like SA and WI.How often we play against country like SA in Test format.Do you remember last test match against SA in 2006 at P Sara ground?I don't think so.Because your are not a cricket fan just a funny crow who searching money from some where doing any thing. What a game it was?It is the cricket. Can't get that sort of battle against bat and ball even watching whole IPL season.I want blame to BCCI for this matter.Because they doing what more beneficial for them. They don't cancel any Test match.Even they play 4 test match for tour vs ENG,AUS and SA.I don't think SL cricketers blame this matter.Because as a human been they want money. To get money they should play IPL,SLPL.To do this they want time which gain from cutting test match. But poor cricket fans,

Posted by CricIndia208 on (October 30, 2012, 17:16 GMT)

Well done SLC. Should be an exciting tri-series.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 17:13 GMT)

SHAME wtf SLC thinking good way to prepare the yongsters for test world cup wtever it is

Posted by Pteris on (October 30, 2012, 17:12 GMT)

Where is the ICC in all of this? Shouldnt they be the defenders of Test cricket?

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 17:10 GMT)

Its all about .... money!! For the players and the board.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 16:59 GMT)

then why don't they have a quad, series and include south africa.

Posted by Paul-in-Finland on (October 30, 2012, 16:48 GMT)

First Tests were culled due to the IPL , shame on you SLC. Now until 2014 or later, in order accommodate a triangular one-day series : scandalous.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 16:42 GMT)

Although this is not on from Sri Lanka and unacceptable, regardless of what happens, don't think it will hurt South Africa because 1 its a valuable rest period for its top players and 2 result would've been one sided. I think Sri Lanka don't want to be embarrassed by the South Africans :D

Posted by kitgun on (October 30, 2012, 16:34 GMT)

really, the end of test cricket, so sad - these administrators will kill it off to make short term money....the only way to stop this is for fans to boycott T20's and one dayers!

Posted by AzAb12754 on (October 30, 2012, 16:33 GMT)

I question Sri Lanka attitude to tests because they already cancelled I believe a two match test series against West Indies for Tri series involving India yet again so IPL for them won't be missed. Now this with South Africa which may or may not happen. Never a big fan of FTP always a mess to me with too many same meaningless series and tournaments.

Posted by kitgun on (October 30, 2012, 16:32 GMT)

I am so dissapointed by this...test cricket has little chance of surviving because the administrators who pay lip service to test cricket are really only interested in T20 and One dayers. The actions speak louder than words. I cannot recall anyone culling a T20 series on a One day series to play test cricket - it is only the reverse. I wish these people would be honest rather than just kid us that they are interested in Test cricket!

Posted by Harmony111 on (October 30, 2012, 16:27 GMT)

Hmm India be default gets the flak for hastening the demise of Test Cricket cos it plays so many ODIs and also because of the IPL. Let's see what ppl have to say here for this attitude of SLC who have now twice disrespected the highest form of this beautiful game.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 16:24 GMT)

More T20 Greed. When will the ICC step in and ban the jokes that are the IPL SLPL BPL which are destroying REAL cricket.

Posted by adm21 on (October 30, 2012, 16:20 GMT)

If it's convenient to always play what they've been playing recently, when will they ever fit in some tests?

Posted by bumsonseats on (October 30, 2012, 16:10 GMT)

now this takes the biscuit, another attempt to put another meaningless T20 ahead of test cricket i hope the saffars refuse or the ICC take a stand, if memory serves me well, a series in the WIs went this way with SL being involved with that. the sooner T20s between countries other than WCs is abolished the better we will be.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 16:10 GMT)

hooooooo god another ind vs sl every body knows result

Posted by mihir_nam on (October 30, 2012, 16:01 GMT)

Well, there are other nations like Ireland , Afghanistan waiting to play Test Cricket. If Sri Lanka don't want to play test and become BCCI slave then they can opt out of Test Club . Ireland given good chance can develop fast. How Shameless SLC is India didn't even bother to send a single player to their league and these SLC guys want to cancel 2test against Windies cause it clashes with IPL. and want to postpone 3test series against RSA to accommodate triseries with India . ICC should take strict action if some boards do not act according to Designed FTP, should also demote to associate level and stop funding.

Posted by   on (October 30, 2012, 15:59 GMT)

We haven't been there since 2006 - does another year really matter? Might as well make it 2016 - one place SA can't play.

why in the world srilanka wants to play a tri-series and that too with India involved as if they haven't played a series aginst them in ages... If officials have any sense play a test series with SouthAfrica or atleast a test series with Westindies rather than killing cricket by playing with india... i am sick and tired of these india vs srilanka series.... somebody please instill some sense in Srilankan officials...

Posted by krazymetalbadger on (October 30, 2012, 15:55 GMT)

Strip these ODI/T20 glory boys of their test status they obvious do not give too hoots

Posted by ButWhatDoIKnow on (October 30, 2012, 15:52 GMT)

Cancelling TESTS against England, India and now South Africa??? Who's next? Australia maybe?? ICC please take note, Cricket truly IS being murdered in Sri Lanka!!!

Posted by Narbavi on (October 30, 2012, 15:32 GMT)

hmm, the way i see it, they are postponing it to avoid guys like Amla kallis and Di villiers who are at their peak, the question is, what if these guys are in tremendous form even in 2014?
