Offspinner Mirza Jamil snapped up two wickets in the final over to bowl Pakistan to a dramatic two-run victory over West Indies in the knock-out final of the CLICO International Under-15 Championship at Warner Park.
With West Indies requiring six runs from the final six deliveries, Man Of The Match Jamil held his nerve to send down two dot balls to No. 10 batsman Donavan Nelson before having him caught at midwicket attempting a boundary.
Devone Davis, who was left undefeated on 24, spanked the fourth ball to deep extra cover and scampered two but could only achieve a single from the penultimate delivery, to leave his partner Omar Samuels needing a big hit to win the match. Jamil, however, sent down a flatter, faster ball which Samuels failed to negotiate and wicketkeeper Faizan Khan whipped off the bails to end the Windies innings at 217.

Nikita Miller put Jamaica in the box seat on the first day of the Carib Beer Challenge final against Trinidad & Tobago at Sabina Park. Miller took a career-best 5 for 29 as T&T, put in to bat, were bowled out for 121. Jamaica were 107 for 4 when bad light brought an early close.
It could have been worse for T&T who at one stage were 69 for 7 before a rearguard led by Dave Mohammed. None of their top order got to grips with the variable pace and bounce from the pitch and were guilty of gifting their wickets with reckless strokes.
Jerome Taylor started the slide when he bowled Adrian Barath for 9 and then Darren Bravo, the brother of Dwayne, was caught at midwicket for 12. Lendl Simmons was caught at short leg off Miller for 0, and Daren Ganga was run out for 18 after indecision between him and Kieron Pollard. Three wickets fell for four runs in 17 balls to leave T&T 43 for 4.

Matthew Hoggard gave England's selectors a timely reminder of his worth with his first five-wicket haul of the season for Yorkshire, who dominated the second day against Hampshire at Headingley. Andrew Gale made 138, and there were valuable contributions from Gerard Brophy (40) and Ajmal Shahzad (35) as Yorkshire piled up 398. Enter Hoggard, who had Michael Brown caught for nought before bowling James Adams and John Crawley. Michael Carberry was struck a nasty below before he too fell, and Hoggard had all five Hampshire wickets when he trapped Michael Lumb in front for 11. Hampshire limped to stumps trailing by 283 runs.
Andrew Flintoff fell to Peter Trego for a golden duck as Somerset fought back strongly on the second day against Lancashire at Old Trafford. Paul Horton and Iain Sutcliffe added a further six to their overnight stand of 60, as Trego and Mark Turner chipped away. Horton was bowled by Trego for 64, and Flintoff nudged meekly at his first delivery to leave Lancashire tottering on 126 for 5. Trego was denied a hat-trick but Lancashire went to stumps trailing by 17 runs with just one wicket remaining.

Kent left reeling after Prior ton

Sussex hadn't quite hit their stride in the early stages of their title defence, but that changed on the second day at Hove as they made full use of the play available on another rain-shortened day to leave Kent reeling on 65 for 6

Sussex hadn't quite hit their stride in the early stages of their title defence, but that changed on the second day at Hove as they made full use of the play available on another rain-shortened day to leave Kent reeling on 65 for 6. Matt Prior's 105, his 16th first-class century, pushed Sussex towards a handy first-innings total before the bowlers set about a Kent batting line-up lacking confidence.
Kent's top order subsided against Nottinghamshire last week, sinking to 13 for 4 in the first innings before eventually edging to 162, and a similar state appeared this time around. Joe Denly, his feet not moving early on, was caught on the crease by Robin Martin-Jenkins. Next ball was virtually the same as Martin van Jaarsveld repeated the first-ball duck he collected against Nottinghamshire.

Murtagh leads strong Middlesex riposte

The weather gods tried to upset play on the second day at Lord's, but Middlesex scrapped and clawed their way back into the reckoning against Glamorgan

The weather gods tried to upset play on the second day at Lord's, but Middlesex scrapped and clawed their way back into the reckoning against Glamorgan. With Tim Murtagh prising out three quick wickets before the close, Glamorgan hobbled to stumps trailing by 223 runs.
Murtagh bowled seven lively overs unchanged from the Nursery End in perfect late-afternoon sunshine, finding one to hold its line on Matthew Wood, whose feet were planted. Glamorgan were 0 for 1 and in spite of the seemingly perfect batting conditions, Murtagh and Chris Silverwood were moving the ball prodigously. After clipping two neat fours David Hemp was bowled through the gate by a cracking off-cutter which jarred down the slope, and Gareth Rees - who was earlier struck a nasty blow between the knees - poked tentatively at one which held its line on the off stump.

Shane Warne inspired Rajasthan Royals to a sensational come-from-behind win against Deccan Chargers by capping outstanding leadership and canny bowling with a 17-run charge in the last over.
The three-wicket victory - which was decided, for the second successive day, off the penultimate ball of the match - made Rajasthan the first team in the IPL to chase down a 200-plus score. They now lie fourth with four points from three games while Deccan, for whom Andrew Symonds scored a century and bowled the fateful final over, lost their third match in a row and remain at the bottom of the table.

Andrew Flintoff and Marcus Trescothick were the centre of attention
at Old Trafford where Lancashire enjoyed the best of the day against Somerset. Flintoff took 2 for 40 in 16 pacy and impressive overs as Somerset were bowled out for 238 in two-and-a-bit sessions. It should have been less but Trescothick, who was dropped three times, with 77 and Ian Blackwell held the innings together. Lancashire closed on 60 for 0.
Mark Stoneman made up for running out Michael Di Venuto in the first over of a rain-hit day at Chester-le-Street by scoring an unbeaten 58 as Durham reached 144 for 3 against Surrey. Stoneman sold his partner down the river in calling him for an impossible run, and as Durham slid to 13 for 3 it appeared that the blunder was going to be very costly. But he put on an unbeaten 131 for the third wicket with Dale Benkenstein, who also finished on 58. Durham were without Liam Plunkett because of a side strain.
Michael Vaughan followed two failures against a university side last week with 19 for Yorkshire against Hampshire at Headingley, edging to third slip on the brink of lunch. Yorkshire slipped to 54 for 3 in seam-friendly conditions but were rescued by a 109-run stand between Jacques Rudolph and Andrew Gale as the cloud dispersed and made batting easier, closing on 270 for 6. Gale ended on 99 not out after surviving a tough caught-and-bowled chance off Chris Tremlett.

Middlesex struggle on bowlers' day at Lord's

Glamorgan's bowlers grasped the initiative on the first day against Middlesex at Lord's, reducing the home side to 198 for 5

Glamorgan's bowlers grasped the initiative on the first day against Middlesex at Lord's, reducing the home side to 198 for 5. Jason Gillespie, who moved to Glamorgan from Yorkshire over the winter, impressed with three tidy spells but it was Ryan Watkins' bustling medium-pace which stood out, accounting for the two significant wickets of Owais Shah and Ed Joyce, before David Nash gave the hosts a lifeline with an unbeaten 53.
Remarkably, Glamorgan haven't won at Lord's since 1954. Winston Churchill was at No.10, David Whitfield's Caria Maria celebrated its fourth consecutive week at No.1 and the legendary Wilf Wooller held the reins. Glamorgan's current squad were but a twinkle in the eyes of their parents, but with an impressively disciplined allround bowling performance, they have given their side an excellent chance of ending a 54-year drought.

Arafat stars against former team

It hasn't been the easiest of starts to the season for either Sussex or Kent and it was the visitors who ended the first day at Hove feeling a little better about life as Yasir Arafat took four wickets against his former county

It hasn't been the easiest of starts to the season for either Sussex or Kent and it was the visitors who ended the first day at Hove feeling a little better about life as Yasir Arafat took four wickets against his former county. Sussex have had to wave goodbye to Ryan Harris after he opted to remain a non-overseas player in Australia and, in their first home match of the season, the batting suffered a significant collapse on a fine Hove afternoon.
Matt Prior, with a restrained half century, and Luke Wright halted the slide with a stand of 84 for the sixth wicket, but Arafat struck two late blows allowing Kent to be highly satisfied with their day. They started the season with a 10-wicket defeat against Nottinghamshire and a one-day loss against Essex and had to enter this match without their captain, Robert Key, who has gone down with a virus.
Key hadn't been well enough to travel with the team and has undergone blood tests to try and identify the virus which has laid him low. It was bad timing for him and he was named in the England Performance Squad earlier this week to boost his hopes of an international recall during the season.

Chennai edge out Mumbai in thriller

A late assault from Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh threatened to gatecrash the Chennai Super Kings' first home game, but Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side held their nerve to clinch a thrilling six-run win

A spirited late assault from Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh threatened to gatecrash the Chennai Super Kings' first home game but, with the match in the balance in the final over, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side held their nerve to clinch a thrilling six-run win. A 104-run stand between Matthew Hayden and Suresh Raina took Chennai to an imposing 208 for 5 that was nearly overhauled by Nayar's 20-ball 45.
With Mumbai needing 62 off the last four overs, with four wickets in hand, the contest seemed pretty much over. Nayar and Harbhajan, captaining again in Sachin Tendulkar's absence, had other plans. P Amarnath had conceded 36 off his first three overs but that was miserly compared to what he was subjected to in his final over. Harbhajan clubbed a six over long-off before Nayar, the left-hander, hit two fours through the leg-side, and made it 21 for the over by launching an overpitched ball over long-off. Amarnath finished with 57 off his four, the most runs conceded by a bowler in a match for the tournament.
