Abahani end first phase in first place

A round-up of the Dhaka Premier Division matches played on December 15, 2014

Abahani displaced Prime Bank Cricket Clubat the top of the points table at the end of the first phase, after their 33-run win in Fatullah. The other four teams to have qualified for the Super League are Kalabagan Cricket Academy, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Legends of Rupganj and Mohammedan Sporting Club.
The encounter of the top two teams in the table turned out to be a low-scoring affair. Abahani batted first and made 169 in 41.1 overs. Opener Abdul Mazid held one end with a steady 58 off 102 balls, and was the eighth batsman out. His only support came from Hamilton Masakadza (33) and captain Ziaur Rahman (30).
Taskin Ahmed and Farhad Reza took three wickets each, giving Prime Bank the advantage going into the break. But they squandered that during their chase, with only Mahmudullah (51) standing firm as they were bowled out for 136 in 39.2 overs. Saqlain Sajib and Al-Amin took three wickets each.
Old DOHS Sports Club bowed out with yet another big defeat, this time against Brothers Union, who crushed them by 93 runs in Mirpur.
Batting first, Brothers were bowled out for 195 in 49.4 overs. This was only the third time this season that Old DOHS had bowled out their opponents. Legspinner Raihanuddin took four wickets while seamer Abu Jayed picked up three.
But Old DOHS' batting remained in the mire, as they were bowled out for 102 in 36.3 overs, their lowest score of the campaign. Mohammad Shahzada took three wickets, and Brothers ended their season with five wins.
Victoria Sporting Club beat Kalabagan Cricket Academy by 48 runs to finish seventh in the league table, missing out narrowly on the second phase.
Batting first, they made 237 for 6 in the fog-shortened game that was reduced to 47 overs a side. Marshall Ayub scored his second fifty of the season while Enamul Haque blasted 44 off 25 balls.
In reply, KCA were bowled out for 189 in 44 overs. Pace bowlers Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Abu Haider took three wickets each while Suhrawadi Shuvo took two wickets.
The league committee, CCDM, hasn't announced the Super League schedule yet. The players go into an indefinite break, though it isn't likely to last longer than 10 days.
