32nd Match (N), Brabourne, April 20, 2022, Indian Premier League
While Prithvi Shaw falls for 41 off 20, David Warner stays unbeaten on 60 off 30 to see DC home in 10.3 overs. We leave you with a teaser from our report. Thanks for joining us. See you tomorrow.
Delhi Capitals spent the last four days inside their hotel rooms, unsure if they would get to play this match. They even had a change of venues to facilitate the match but till about an hour before the match they didn’t have the go-ahead to go to the ground, especially with a sixth member, Tim Seifert, testing positive for Covid-19 on the day. From the moment they were uncaged, almost everything went right: they won the toss, bowled Punjab Kings out for 115, and chased it down in 10.3 overs to earn some extra time off before they went back into their rooms. Punjab Kings, who have now lost more tosses than any side this IPL, stayed true to their aggressive approach but didn’t have the depth to match, especially with Odean Smith dropped for a specialist bowler, Nathan Ellis. Wickets kept falling – two each to Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Khaleel Ahmed – on what Axar called a sticky surface although it didn’t quite look sticky when the Delhi Capitals batters ended the chase in a hurry.

Not just the highest for Delhi Capitals but for any Delhi-based team in the IPL. Overall the 11th-highest powerplay score in all of IPL. Capitals are 81 for 0.
Great stat from Shiva Jayaraman: the highest percentage of a 100-plus target shaved off in the powerplay.

Prithvi Shaw and David Warner seem to be in a hit-off, bringing up the team fifty in3.3 overs, the fastest this year. Prithvi Shaw is 26 off 10, David Warner 26 off 11. In all of IPL, this is the fifth-highest score at 3.3 overs. Watch out for the biggest powerplays.

Two overs in, and they already have 26 on the board. Prithvi Shaw took a couple of moments to come to terms with Vaibhav Arora's inswing, but once he did he took a toll. Then both Shaw and David Warner took a boundary each off Kagiso Rabada. They are now 96% favourites to win.

The lowest total of the tournament. Lack of depth in batting sitting at odds with PBKS' approach. Plus some wickets just finding a way to fall. Shikhar Dhawan's catch, Jonny Bairstow's full-blooded pull finding the fielder, Mayank Agarwal playing on...
DC will be happy with this. "It was a little sticky," says Axar Patel. "Lalit bowled the fourth over, he said the wicket is stopping. Then I bowled the sixth, and I found the same. We had no option but to focus on the game. Who knows when anyone can test positive? We have no control over it."

This is some collpase. Khaleel Ahmed comes back, bowls an offcutter, short of a length, Shahrukh goes after it, gets an edge to Pant. He is gone for 12 off 20. They are 92 for 8 in 14.3 overs. Projected score is 110 now.

If only at the top of the wickets chart. Kuldeep Yadav is now No. 2 on the list with 13 wickets, four behind Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 17. He goes round the wicket and rips a big orthodox left-arm wristspun delivery to bowl Nathan Ellis with the last ball of his allocation. Ends up with 4-0-24-2. PBKS 90 for 7 in 14. Projected score down to 118.

Perfectly used. He has Kagiso Rabada on strike but bowls the big ripping orthodox delivery, which takes a thick edge for a single. The next time he comes on strike, Rabada gets the wrong'un, which bowls him comprehensively. It's 90 for 6 in 13.4. Projected score is 126 now.

In the one match that PBKS don't play Odean Smith, they have lose the fifth wicket in 12.1 overs. Jitesh Sharma is out lbw for 32 off 23, trying to sweep one of the more difficult spinners to sweep, Axar Patel. Projected score has fallen back to 136, though.

This is the way Punjab Kings play. Even when the fifth wicket is the last recognised pair. Jitesh Sharma has gone after Kuldeep Yadav in both his overs. He is now 28 off 18 with five fours. That takes PBKS 77 for 4 in 10 overs. Predicted score is 144.

From 27 for 0 in three overs to 47 for 3 in six overs is quite a turnaround for PBKS. The third one is Axar Patel getting Liam Livingstone stumped.
And it becomes even worse for PBKS as Jonny Bairstow pulls a Khaleel Ahmed long hop straight into the lap of long leg. It is 54 for 4 in 6.4 overs. Projected score 139 now.

Mayank Agarwal keeps looking to stay beside the line, and score through the off side, but Mustafizur Rahman gives him no room, which leads to his playing on. That is a big wicket. The projected score falls to 163 with that.

DC play match-ups and introduce Lalit Yadav to bowl to Shikhar Dhawan in the fourth over. It is an ordinary over with six off the first three, and the fourth ball is short and down the leg side. It can be a wide, but Dhawan tries to help it along for four with a vertical pull. But Pant is right behind, and he takes this off the face of the bat. PBKS 33 for 1 in 3.4. Projected score 171

Mayank Agarwal is looking to make up time after having missed the last match. The second ball he faced he cut Shardul Thakur away for four. He likes staying leg side of the ball, and he has hit four fours in 12 balls, three on the off side and one leg glance as Thakur looks to stay away from cover hits. PBKS 27 for 0 in three overs.

Rishabh Pant has won the toss for Delhi Capitals, and they are chasing as expected. Only one change for them. Mitch Marsh, who is positive, makes way for Sarfaraz Khan.
"It is unfortunate what has happened to us," Pant says. "But we have decided we won't talk about it. We will give our best and hope the players who are positive get well soon."
Mayank Agarwal is back for Punjab Kings. He takes Prabhsimran's place. Odean Smith has made way for Nathan Ellis. So the pace department has been strengthened at the cost of an allrounder.
Delhi Capitals 1 Prithvi Shaw, 2 David Warner, 3 Sarfaraz Khan, 4 Rishabh Pant (capt. & wk), 5 Lalit Yadav, 6 Rovman Powell, 7 Axar Patel, 8 Shardul Thakur, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Mustafizur Rahman, 11 Khaleel Ahmed
Punjab Kings 1 Mayank Agarwal (capt.), 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Jonny Bairstow, 4 Liam Livingstone, 5 Jitesh Sharma (wk), 6 Shahrukh Khan, 7 Nathan Ellis, 8 Kagiso Rabada, 9 Rahul Chahar, 10 Vaibhav Arora, 11 Arshdeep Singh

Things have been a little bit interrupted with Mitch Marsh down with Covid. Our session yesterday was pushed back The preparations haven’t been perfect and I addressed the group about the two options we have – we can drag our backsides around or we can take the positives around and realise that we are here for a big tournament with a great franchise. You need leaders to stand up and so far Warner has been great, Rishabh is good and Mustafizur apart from an over or two has been good. The tournament for us so far has been stop-start. I think it’s all there. The players are very aware of the way I want them to play. There have been interruptions with player availability but we haven’t spoken much about that. Two wins in two games here and we should get used to playing on the side pitches.

The BCCI and IPL have changed the venue for DC's next match from Pune to Wankhede Stadium as a precaution. The BCCI has identified the sixth member of DC squad to have tested positive as Tim Seifert. He is asymptomatic, though.
Also it is confirmed now that this match is on after the others tested negative.

More good news for the game's chances tonight. The Delhi Capitals bus has just reached Brabourne and the players have started coming out with their kits. Shardul Thakur, David Warner and Ajit Agarkar are among the first ones to get off and make their way to wards the dressing room. Masks all around.

This is a positive news. We are being told now that the Delhi Capitals are about to leave their hotel for Brabourne Stadium in five minutes. So fingers crossed.

A franchise can field a team if there are a minimum of 12 players available for them, including at least seven Indians and one substitute. If a team has fewer than 12, the BCCI will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season. If, for some reason, that is not possible, the matter will be referred to the technical committee of the IPL, and the decision of the committee will be "final and binding".
reading the above playing condition, I will hazard a guess that DC should have enough players to go ahead with the match. However, we don't yet know what the latest RT-PCR results throw up. And about the players and support staff who have already tested positive, this is what they have to do:
The participant who tests positive will have to isolate for a minimum of seven days, and during that period, he will be tested on the sixth and seventh days. For him to re-enter the team's bio-secure environment, he will have to provide two consecutive negative RT-PCR tests taken 24 hours apart, full resolution of symptoms, see that there are no fresh symptoms for more than 24 hours, and that there have been no use of medications for more than 24 hours.

Punjab Kings are there at the ground and warming up, but Delhi Capitals haven't yet left their hotel. But we do hear they are expected to leave any moment. So it is good news overall but there is still some uncertainty over the match.

There is a Covid-19 shadow over today's match. Welcome to the Live Report. The match was first move from Pune to Brabourne Stadium because Delhi Capitals couldn't travel because of Covid-19 cases in their camp. Now we know another player has tested positive today. It was an RAT test, but what we know is everybody is going through RT-PCR tests. The fate of the match depends on the results. We will keep you updated here. For all the details, you can read our report here.
