This time he middled it and cleared the ropes over backward square and that's an emphatic way to win a contest!
Giants vs Vipers, 7th Match at Dubai, ILT20, Jan 24 2024 - Match Result
Vipers won by 6 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
Right then, we hope you enjoyed the game. On behalf of the team, this is Rvel Zahid saying good night!
James Vince, Gulf Giants Captain: The way Lynn and Cox played, they got us back in the game, but the bowlers pegged us back again, at one stage 180 was on cards and that would have been competitive. We lost a few key wickets upfront and I thought Hasaranga was fantastic. We need to tidy up a few areas.
Colin Munro, Desert Vipers Captain: It went a lot better, you win and you lose some, it's more pleasing tonight than the other night, winning the toss was big favour to us, Hose soaked up pressure and what an innings from Hasaranga. We needed to have plans in place. We didn't quite adapt to the conditions last time...you just gotta play the game in front of you and I think we did that pretty well tonight, would have been nice to get some extra runs in the powerplay. Tere was a lot of seam movement early on,. (Shaheen) he is a freak in a good way, he is too experienced, he know his fields and knows what to do and he executed his plans
Wanindu Hasaranga, Player of the Match: my batting (gave me more pleasure) I'm happy to perform. I normally did my basic thing, I batted no 7-8 in last three games, today got a chance to bat no.4 and I tried to do my normal things. I like to have a batting all-rounder tag in front of my name.
Vipers got over the line rather comfortably in the end. Azam Khan and Sherfane Rutherford ensured there were no hiccups and didn't bottle up the chase after a fiery knock from Wanindu Hasaranga, who was striking above 200, that helped them recover from the shaky start. Apart from Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Chris Jordan, everyone else kept it under 10 rpo, with Dominic Drakes bowling splendidly and managing to bowl dots at crucial stages. A few more runs would have sent this game down to the wire. Earlier, Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi, making his ILT20 debut, bowled brilliantly in tandem and didn't let batters break free. Hasaranga then followed it up with a solid performance in the middle overs. Only Chris Lynn was able to get going, and without his punchy 63, it would have been worse for Giants. A little bit more support down the order was needed, but they struggled against a quality lineup on a tricky surface. Stay tuned for the presentation
shortish and whizzing away in the channel from round the wicket, tries to whack him across the line but can't lay bat on it
fuller length outside off, throws his bat at it and a thick edge takes it to deep third
Shuffles across off stump and tries a cheeky shot over fine leg but ends up wearing it on his body
again on the shoulder, shorter than the previous delivery, deflects away behind square on off, well-directed bumper, didn't give him any time to react to that snorter
that's a mean bumper at his body, tries to hoist him in the same region but cops a blow on the shoulder at it ricochets to point
fraction short at his body, lovely whippy pull for four to midwicket, quick hands!
skips down and forces this shot ball at him to wide of long on
Good length angling across off, gets inside the line and clinks it to long on
goes for the pull and finds short fine, scurries through a run
Excellent comeback from Drakes who has bowled his heart out with his thinking cap on. Proving on a tight off stump line from back of a length, Rutherford tries to club him over midwicket and can't lay bat on it.
Skips down and shanks it to deep square leg boundary, a pre-meditated disdain pull to make it easier fr Vipers
Effort ball into the deck on a short length and it's kicking and screaming off the turf, goes for the pull but can't connect
Clever operator, arrows it in from over the wicket and lands it on that uncomfortable area again, right at the body and he warily punches it down the pitch
Another play and a miss! Flings it on back of a length on a tight off stump line, tries to hit it through the covers and is beaten again by the slowness of the delivery
Flips it on a shorter length outside off, tries to punch it off the backfoot and gets beaten, ball came back in shade
Lovely shot. Rutherford doing Rutherford things. Good length just outside off, gets behind swiftly and spanks it insolently but a terrific effort from the fielder prevents a certain boundary
Sweet! Gets right behind the line and clatters it past mid-on for a cracking boundary, what a way to get off the mark
Lovely grab by Smith! Loses his shape as he tries to tug it behind square, ends up gloving it to the keeper and it's time for a strategic timeout. Giants hang by a thread, they need to create more panic to make it interesting. Vipers are in a relatively comfortable position and the asking rate isn't really taxing. They need a few boundaries to seal the deal
mean bumper but not very well-directed, over the keeper's head and sped away for four, he got some bat on it and that was enough to earn another timely boundary
