Full commentary

That is it from us from Sharjah, but the action at the ILT20 now shifts to Dubai in the second game of the double-header Sunday. Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Gulf Giants face off there; but don't put into oblivion Banton's hundred from this game that quickly. Until next time, good night and take care!

Tom Banton is the Player of the Match: "In my first eight or nine balls, I was on zero. It's funny how cricket works sometimes. It was a really good wicket. I struggled for 25 balls. I have a better understanding of my game than a few years ago. Nicky, Polly, Robin and everyone has been really good."

Nicholas Pooran, MIE captain: "Happy that we continue [winning]. Last time we spoke about improving as a team. Today was a better day for us. The bowlers surely have been fabulous for us. Responsibility is something we keep talking about in the dressing room."

Tim Southee, SW captain: "Wasn't a bad score. We were reasonably happy with the score at the halfway stage. Not taking wickets makes it hard. We weren't able to take wickets. [On the dropped catches] It does hurt. Avishka has been unbelievable in his first two games. Nice to see John at the other [end]."

Time for the presentations

MD: "Congratulations MI, well played. Good to see the team bounce back. Please continue doing well."

5.23pm As Coldplay sang, nobody said it would so easy. The pitch seemed to have got slower even as the first innings progressed, but Banton bashed his way to 102* from just 55 balls when all but one of SW's batters had struggled to get going. Seventy-six of those runs came in boundaries, with his partner Perera, with whom Banton shared an unbeaten stand of 157 off just 90 balls, happy to play second fiddle. The left-hand opener got 56* from 42 deliveries, and MIE cakewalked their way to victory. Hang around for the presentations.
