9.12pm That is a wrap from The Oval. Invincibles have played all their eight fixtures, and barring miracles, there's nothing left to play for for the rest, other than pride for the bottom five and practice for Superchargers and Brave. Good night!

9.08pm Wow. Invincibles march ever onwards. 24 points from eight games, and a net run-rate that basically requires Brave and Superchargers to win with 100 balls to spare if they want to usurp them at the top of the pile. The Currans and Sowter did the needful with the ball, before Jacks, Cox, SCurran and Ferreira bossed the chase. A target of 153 was at least 30 short of par, but they'd have needed 200-plus to deny this chasing team. A Hundred three-peat surely beckons now.

The Meerkat Match Hero is Jacks: "We were struggling to see the ball today, so picked up my catch late. Felt brilliant with the bat, and Coxy made it easy for me. We've been looking for that top spot, we know how important it is. We've still got things to improve on... but looking forward to Sunday."

Dawson to Ferreira, SIX runs

wide line, smashed contemptuously over long-off! And that is the end of that.

77
4
Dawson to Ferreira, FOUR runs

wide line, under-edged, nutmegs the keeper! What's a team to do? Bowled well, slower and wider, Ferreira had a big yahoo, and gets a dribbled four for his sins!

76
1
Dawson to Billings, 1 run

slides into the legs, nudged to the on-side

Twenty five balls to come... don't think we'll need them all

Alex: "just a quick question. does Kane Williamson have the most luxurious beard of current international cricketers?" Given Moeen Ali has retired, it's hard to think of a contemporary to match him

75
1
Wood to Ferreira, 1 run

fuller length, almost a yorker, dug out to the on-side, good stop at midwicket

74
6
Wood to Ferreira, SIX runs

there's one of them! Pace off, a murderous tonk across the line, strong base, fast arms, heaved up and over deep midwicket, out of the length ball

Niranjan: "The runs that Overton scores. The runs that Overton gives. There you go, you will find a thriller of a contest there!!! A man competing with himself!!" Best contest of the night...

73
2
Wood to Ferreira, 2 runs

full again, biffed through the arc to wide long-on, another two as the requirement ticks down to a three-shot game...

72
Wood to Ferreira, no run

wipes across the short ball, can't connect

71
Wood to Ferreira, no run

very full length, right up to the toes, pressed to mid-off

1
Overton to Ferreira, 1 run

cross-seamer, bashed just short of mid-off! Didn't get hold of his biff through the short ball, and plopped in front of the approaching fielder. Words between Overton and Ferreira... needle! What fun

Navneeth : "So just to confirm, the Invincibles are effectively through to the final if they win this?" Yes. Big NRR advantage, as well as a four-point lead

70
1w
Overton to Ferreira, 1 wide

short, wide outside off... free run

69
4
Overton to Ferreira, FOUR runs

full length, biffed emphatically through midwicket! Who needs sighters?

Well... a wicket is a wicket. But Spirit need six more of them, as these runs won't defend themselves..

68
W
Overton to Cox, OUT

goes for the ramp, bowled him! Cox anticipated the fuller length, but couldn't line him up in time! Through his legs as the bat flings across the line, Overton is pumped up!

Jordan Cox b Overton 47 (27b 5x4 2x6 47m) SR: 174.07
67
4
Overton to Cox, FOUR runs

rocks back, rifled through the covers! This could end very quickly now!

66
6
Overton to Cox, SIX runs

pummelled off the hips! Back of a length into the body from Overton, Cox winds into his pull, didn't get perfect hold of it, but Turner can't gather!

Niranjan: "Looks like Spirit are at least 100 runs short" Yes... a slight exaggeration, but only slight!

65
2
Dawson to Cox, 2 runs

met on the back foot, cracked hard to wide long-on, two more to the cause

64
1
Dawson to Billings, 1 run

skids through low from back of a length, clipped off the back foot to mid-on ... and it's a direct hit from Pope! Billings looked in trouble, but the dive saves him!

63
W
Dawson to Sam Curran, OUT

chases the wide one this time! He probably didn't need to do that, but Curran backed his eye, but Dawson's angle took the ball out of his arc. Gleeson tumbles under the leading edge and holds on at point

Sam Curran c Gleeson b Dawson 27 (13b 2x4 2x6 17m) SR: 207.69
63
1w
Dawson to Sam Curran, 1 wide

far too wide outside off

62
6
Dawson to Sam Curran, SIX runs

massive! Boshed out of the full length, a languid swing of the bat, up and over wide long-on! The rate cascades to basically a run a ball, and this one is cooked

61
1
Dawson to Cox, 1 run

round the wicket, full length on the wide line, cuffed out to cover
